Shubhankar Sharma leads Kapil Dev Invitational after Round 3 at Greater Noida
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Shubhankar Sharma carded an even-par 72 on Friday to retain a two-shot lead after the third round of the ₹2 crore Kapil Dev Invitational Tour Championship at the Jaypee Greens Golf & Spa Resort in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh. The 30-year-old Chandigarh golfer stands at 11-under 205 heading into Saturday's final round.
How Round 3 Unfolded for Shubhankar
Sharma entered the day with a commanding four-stroke overnight advantage but found the closing holes costly. He mixed five birdies with three bogeys and a double bogey, cutting his cushion to two shots by the end of the round.
His round began promisingly — four birdies came on the front nine, with gains on the second, fourth, and seventh holes, before a fifth birdie on the 10th. The back nine, however, proved troublesome as errant approaches cost him on the homeward stretch.
'It was an up-and-down day,' Sharma said. 'I started strongly and made four birdies on the front nine, including gains on the second, fourth, and seventh, before adding another on the 10th. The back nine was disappointing because I missed a few opportunities coming in and dropped some shots. However, I'm still playing good golf and have plenty to look forward to tomorrow. Hopefully, I can carry the momentum from today's front nine through all 18 holes in the final round.'
Closest Challengers Move Up the Leaderboard
Bengaluru's Manoj S surged from sixth to tied second with a bogey-free 66, carding six birdies to reach nine-under 207. Italy's Michele Ortolani also climbed from seventh overnight, firing a blemish-free, seven-under 65 — the joint-lowest score of the day — to join Manoj at 207.
Last year's PGTI Order of Merit champion Yuvraj Sandhu of Chandigarh posted a three-under 69 to sit in fourth place at seven-under 209.
The Rest of the Field
Chandigarh's Brashwarpal Singh and Bengaluru's Khalin Joshi share fifth place at six-under 210. Joshi, a four-time winner on the DP World PGTI this season, began the week ranked second in the Race to DP World India Championship.
Current Race to the India Championship leader Saptak Talwar moved from tied 31st to tied 25th at three-over 219, keeping his season-long standings ambitions alive despite a difficult week.
Pro-Am Result
Friday's Pro-Am was claimed by the team of professional Tapendra Ghai and amateur Prem Duggal, who finished with a total of 48 Stableford Points.
With Ortolani and Manoj both in red-hot form, the final round at Jaypee Greens promises a tense finish as Sharma looks to convert his overnight lead into a title.
