Ahmedabad, March 12 (NationPress) Rashid Khan fired off a remarkable six-under 66 to seize the lead after the opening round at the Indorama Ventures Golf Championship 2026, a prestigious event boasting a prize pool of US$300,000 (INR 2.7 crore) held at the Kalhaar Blues & Greens Golf Club in Ahmedabad.
The Delhi-native Rashid, who has claimed 14 titles including two internationally, showcased his skills with seven birdies and a single bogey, securing sole possession of the top spot.
Following closely in second place was American Jhared Hack, who won the first event of the season, after finishing round one with a commendable five-under 67, which included six birdies and one bogey.
In a tie for third place, five golfers—Arjun Prasad, Brijesh Kumar, Saptak Talwar, Manav Bais, and Kartik Singh—each recorded four-under 68.
During the back nine, Rashid notched two birdies but also had one bogey. The 35-year-old, eager to end a seven-year title drought, excelled on the front nine with an impressive five birdies, propelling him to the top of the leaderboard.
Rashid remarked, “The course is playing wonderfully, quite different from last time, and the pin placements were challenging. However, I managed to execute some solid shots and putts, creating opportunities for myself by positioning the ball strategically. I have no expectations; I just aim to give my best moving forward.”
Other international competitors who performed well in the first round included French players Clement Sordet and Pierre Pineau, as well as Austrian Christoph Bleier, all managing a score of three-under 69 to tie for eighth.
Among local professionals from Ahmedabad, Aditya Raj Kumar Chauhan shone with a score of 70, placing him tied for 15th.
Pre-tournament favorites Veer Ahlawat (71) and Yuvraj Sandhu (73) found themselves tied for 22nd and 41st respectively.
