New Delhi, June 5 (NationPress) Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have declared a financial assistance of Rs 10 lakh for each of the eleven families of the victims who tragically lost their lives in a stampede outside the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on Wednesday.
In celebration of RCB's first-ever IPL championship, a large number of supporters converged outside the stadium to catch a glimpse of the victorious team, including Virat Kohli, who has been a pivotal part of the franchise since the inception of this lucrative tournament in 2008.
The atmosphere turned somber when fans attempted to breach the stadium gates to enter the venue while RCB was reveling in their inaugural title. The team arrived in Bengaluru in the afternoon, receiving a special welcome at Vidhan Soudha from Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. However, the joyous occasion quickly transformed into a scene of grief due to the loss of lives outside the stadium.
"The tragic event in Bengaluru yesterday has caused immense sorrow and distress within the RCB family. As a gesture of respect and solidarity, RCB has announced financial support of INR 10 lakh to each of the eleven bereaved families. Additionally, we are establishing a fund called RCB Cares to assist fans affected by this unfortunate incident," stated RCB in their announcement.
"Our fans will always be at the core of our mission. We stand united in our grief," they further expressed.
Earlier, Siddaramaiah declared that the state government would cover all medical expenses for the injured individuals, regardless of whether they are admitted to public or private healthcare facilities. "Instructions have been given to the Health Department and Suvarna Arogya Suraksha Trust (SAST) to ensure this is executed promptly," he noted.
Moreover, the Karnataka Chief Minister has ordered a Magisterial Inquiry into the unfortunate stampede that occurred during RCB’s victory festivities at Chinnaswamy Stadium. "The Deputy Commissioner of Bengaluru Urban District has been appointed as the Inquiry Officer, and a report will be submitted within 15 days, after which appropriate actions will be initiated," he stated.
At the same time, the Karnataka Police have initiated Unnatural Death Cases (UDR) concerning the incident that led to the deaths of 11 individuals during the stampede. The Cubbon Park police have recorded 11 UDR cases, and no FIR has been filed in connection with this development, as confirmed by sources.
