Mysuru, May 30 (NationPress) Rhea Purvi Saravanan, the victor of her first Women’s Pro Golf Tour (WPGT) title this season, delivered the initial under-par round, seizing the sole lead after the second day of the seventh Leg of the WPGT at the Jayachamaraja Wadiyar Golf Club. Rhea recorded a score of 2-under 68 following a first-round 72, bringing her two-day total to an even par 140.
At just 22 years old and representing Kolar, Rhea previously triumphed in the opening leg of the tournament. After the first day, she was one stroke behind the three co-leaders in Mysuru. On a day when the organizers implemented a shotgun start to ensure the event concluded before anticipated rains, Rhea began her round on the third hole alongside Durga Nittur and Jasmine Shekar.
She netted birdies on the fifth, seventh, and 15th holes. Her only mistake came on the par-3 eighth hole. Meanwhile, Amandeep Drall, with three birdies against four bogeys, finished with a second consecutive 1-over 71 and claimed the second position at 2-over 142 after a rollercoaster day.
Amandeep started strong with birdies on the first and third holes but faced setbacks with dropped shots on the fourth and sixth. Despite reaching par again with birdies on the ninth and tenth, further bogeys on the 12th, 14th, and 16th left her at one-over for the second day.
Vani Kapoor, aiming for her fourth consecutive win this season, trailed Amandeep by one stroke. She, along with Amandeep and Vidhatri Urs, had a first-round score of 71, but she fell back with a 72, totaling 143, three strokes behind Rhea. Vani started on the first hole with Amandeep and Vidhatri, and despite being 3-over after five holes, she managed to secure one birdie and par the rest.
With just three strokes separating the top three players, the competition for the top prize in the Rs. 14 lakh event promises to be thrilling.
Ridhima Dilawari, who began on the fifth hole, made a significant leap on the second day by shooting an even-par 70 after a first-round 76. She joined Jasmine Shekar (73-73) in a tie for fourth place. Ridhima scored a single birdie on the Par-3 15th and faced a bogey on the Par-5 18th during her round.
Jasmine, starting on the third hole, had a rough start with two bogeys but managed to score a bogey-birdie on the eighth and ninth. She concluded her round with a bogey on the first hole, which was her 17th.
The cut was set at 156, with 19 players making it through. Notable players who missed the cut included Seher Atwal, Rhea Jha, and Disha Kavery.
