Mysuru, May 29 (NationPress) Vani Kapoor, aiming for her fourth title in as many tournaments, has secured a share of the lead following the first round of the seventh leg of the Women’s Pro Golf Tour at the Jayachamaraja Wadiyar Golf Club. Notably, Vani has consistently finished no lower than second place in her last five outings on the domestic WPGT and has clinched victories in the fourth, fifth, and sixth legs of the Tour.
During her round at the JWGC in Mysuru, Vani recorded a score of 71, tying with her friend and former Hero Women's Indian Open runner-up, Amandeep Drall, as well as local favorite Vidhatri Urs.
The three players all ended the day with a score of 1-over 71, as none of them managed to break par on a course that has experienced significant rainfall in recent days. With more rain anticipated, the second round will feature a shotgun start on Friday morning.
The course remained wet due to the recent rains, necessitating the use of preferred lies. The damp fairways, combined with light drizzle and winds, posed additional challenges for the players. The weather forecast predicts continued rain for Friday.
Rhea Purvi Saravanan, who triumphed in the opening leg this season, is tied for fourth place after finishing with a score of 2-over 72.
Vani Kapoor achieved two birdies paired with three bogeys, mirroring Vidhatri Urs's performance. Amandeep Drall managed to secure pars on the front nine before accumulating two birdies and three bogeys on the back nine.
Rhea experienced back-to-back bogeys on the front nine and a double bogey on the par-4 11th, but she regained ground with two consecutive birdies on the 16th and 17th holes.
Jasmine Shekar was the only player to finish one of the stretches under par, recording a score of 1-under 35 with two birdies and one bogey on the front nine; however, she encountered four bogeys during the return journey. Jasmine, a past winner, ended the day in fifth place with a score of 3-over 73, while Durga Nittur finished with a score of 74, claiming sixth place.
Khushi Khanijau secured seventh place with a score of 75, while four players—Karishma Govind, Ridhima Dilawari, Neha Tripathi, and Lavanya Jadon—were tied for eighth at 6-over 76 each.
