Gurugram, March 7 (NationPress) Vani Kapoor excelled on the back nine with one birdie and eight pars, finishing with a score of 1-under 71, securing a commendable three-shot victory over Ridhima Dilawari (70) and Rhea Jha (73) during the fifth leg of the Women’s Pro Golf Tour at the Classic Golf & Country Club on Friday.
This marks Vani’s second consecutive triumph, having clinched the fourth leg the previous month. As one of the most accomplished athletes in the history of the Women’s Pro Golf Tour, she maintained at least a share of the lead from the very first day.
The DLF golfer was the sole leader after the opening round and shared the lead after 36 holes with Amandeep Drall, ultimately sailing to a solid victory by the week’s end. Vani recorded rounds of 70-75-71 for an overall even-par 216 across 54 holes, finishing three strokes ahead of Ridhima (76-73-70) and Rhea (74-72-73).
Starting off the first round in a tie with Amandeep, Vani fell back briefly after a bogey on the opening hole. However, she bounced back with birdies on the third and sixth holes, and despite a setback on the Par-5 ninth, she remained the frontrunner to enhance her title count.
Amandeep and Rhea Jha, who were both part of the lead group, struggled on the front nine, finishing at 2-over with two bogeys each and no birdies. Ridhima, on the other hand, had a consistent run of seven pars followed by birdies on the eighth and ninth but fell short with just one bogey and one birdie on the 18th hole.
Rhea's chances dwindled with three bogeys in the initial 11 holes, and even with two birdies on the 15th and 17th, it was insufficient for her to chase her first title. Amandeep faced inconsistency with three bogeys and no birdies, achieving a round of 75, tying for fourth with Neha Tripathi.
Neha ended with four birdies and four bogeys in a round of 72, tying for fourth place with overnight co-leader Amandeep (71-74-75) at 4-over 220. Four players, including Sneha Singh (77-75-70), who had earlier won the second and third Legs, Kriti Chowhan (78-75-69), Yaalisai Verma (77-72-73), and amateur Ceerat Kang (76-72-74), were tied for sixth place at 6-over 222, with Kriti's final day score of 3-under 69 being the best of the week.
Tied for tenth place were Lavanya Jadon, Durga Nittur, and Gauri Karhade. Despite finishing T-6, Sneha Singh retained her lead in the Hero Order of Merit, while Vani Kapoor moved up to a close second. Sneha's earnings totaled Rs. 6,65,567, while Vani had Rs. 6,54,000, and Amandeep Drall (Rs. 3,95,300) and Kriti Chowhan (Rs. 3,92,934) are in a competitive race for third place.
