Gurugram, March 5 (NationPress) Vani Kapoor faced challenges with two late bogeys but kept her composure to secure a birdie on the last hole, ultimately seizing the solo lead after day one of the fifth leg of the Women’s Pro Golf Tour (WPGT) at the Classic Golf & Country Club on Wednesday. Vani, who triumphed in the fourth leg last month, finished with a score of 2-under 70, leading by one stroke over her close friend Amandeep Drall (71).

Both Vani and Amandeep were the only competitors to finish under par on a day marked by strong winds that made scoring particularly difficult. Rhea Jha stood alone in third place after landing an eagle on the Par-4 eighth but ended her round with five bogeys and one birdie for a total of 74. Rhea had previously won the fifth leg of the 2020 Women's Pro Golf Tour.

With scoring tough, five players ended the day tied for fourth at 4-over 76, including amateurs Ceerat Kang, Anahita Singh, Oviya Reddi, Neha Tripathi, and Ridhima Dilawari. Leader Vani recorded four birdies against two bogeys. She started with a par, then birdied the second and third holes, followed by eight consecutive pars and another birdie on the Par-4 12th. Despite dropping shots on the 16th and 17th, she finished strongly with a birdie.

Amandeep began her round with a bogey but recovered on the fifth hole. She encountered another setback on the Par-4 13th but made birdies on the 14th and 18th, finishing with a score of 71. Amandeep, who played in the early group alongside Gaurika Bishnoi, led the clubhouse until Vani surpassed her.

Two-time season winner Sneha Singh had a challenging day with a score of 5-over 77, which included just one birdie and six bogeys. She ended the day tied for ninth with Yaalisai Verma and Gauri Karhade. Other notable players such as Gaurika Bishnoi, Jasmine Shekar, and Shweta Mansingh each recorded a score of 81, tying for 22nd place.
