New Delhi, Jan 4 (NationPress) India's leading junior tennis players, Senthil Kumar and Maaya Rajeshwaran Revathi, are set to spearhead the nation's efforts in their respective boys' and girls' categories at the ITF J300 tournament, which kicks off on January 6 at the DLTA complex.
Alongside Senthil, who has reached multiple finals on the ITF junior circuit during the 2024 season, other notable Indian players in the boys' tournament include Hitesh Chauhan (R3), Arnav Paparkar (R4), and Varun Verma (R5), all of whom have secured positions in the main draw.
International competitors include Nikta Bilozertsev, currently ranked World No. 87 from Ukraine, and Haydar Cem Gokpinar from Turkey (R111), who will also be contending for the top prize.
In the girls' singles event, the top draws are World No. 51 Yoana Konstantinova from Bulgaria, World No. 71 Eleejah Inisan from France, and her fellow countrywoman Daphnee Mpetshi Perricard (R73).
Additionally, Ada Kumru (R74) and Petra Konjikusic (R75) are among the other top-100 players participating in the tournament. The only other Indian player in the girls' singles main draw is Rishita Reddy Basireddy, while many others will aim to qualify through the preliminary rounds.
According to Rohit Rajpal, president of DLTA, "It is our goal to provide Indian players with ample opportunities to gain ranking points. While DLTA has previously hosted several J200 events, this marks our inaugural J300 event, the second-highest category following J500. We believe this event will create even more opportunities for Indian players."
Rajpal further emphasized, "The competition will be fierce, featuring numerous top-100 players in the junior women's division. This will offer valuable exposure for Indian players. There is a pressing need for more tournaments in Indian tennis, and we are dedicated to organizing as many as we can."
Wild cards for the main draws have been granted to Shanker Heisnam, Samarth Sahita, Aarav Chawla, and Rian Sharma in the boys' category, while Aishwarya Jadhav, Mahika Khanna, Riya Sachdeva, and Aishi Bisht will represent the girls.
The qualifying rounds, which will award eight spots in the main draws, are currently in progress.
