New Delhi, Jan 23 (NationPress) Jay Shah, the Chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC), alongside Sourav Ganguly, the former captain of India and past BCCI President, has been appointed to the newly-formed World Cricket Connects Advisory Board, as announced by the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC).

This new Board takes the place of the MCC World Cricket Committee, which was established in 2006 and held its last meeting at Lord’s last year. The MCC stated that the new Connects Board will convene virtually throughout the year in preparation for World Cricket Connects, and will meet in person immediately following the annual event, while collaborating closely with MCC Chairman Mark Nicholas.

“As the Club develops the World Cricket Connects concept, the goal is to transform it into the premier symposium in the sport, fostering discussion of strategic issues in an independent forum and reaching a consensus on strategies to ensure the future success of cricket,” the MCC noted.

“To meet this aim, the MCC has announced today the creation of a new World Cricket Connects Advisory Board (Connects Board). This independent body will guide the annual World Cricket Connects agenda, aid in facilitating the event’s discussions, and ultimately enhance the potential for meaningful impact on the sport’s well-being,” the MCC added.

Kumar Sangakkara, the former captain of Sri Lanka and past MCC President, will chair the new Connects Board. Additional members include Mel Jones (Former Australia international and current broadcaster), Heather Knight (England women’s captain), Graeme Smith (Former South Africa captain and League Commissioner at SA20), and Andrew Strauss (Former England captain and former Director of Cricket at ECB).

Other members include Anurag Dahiya (Chief Commercial Officer at ICC), Chris Dehring (CEO at West Indies Cricket), Sanjog Gupta (CEO-Sports, JioStar), Trudy Lindblade (CEO at Cricket Scotland), Heath Mills (Executive Chair at World Cricketers’ Association), and Imtiaz Patel (Former Chair of SuperSport, MultiChoice, and DStv), who round out the new Connects Board.

The forthcoming edition of the MCC’s World Cricket Connects symposium, which launched in July 2024, is scheduled to take place at Lord’s on June 7 and 8, prior to the 2025 ICC World Test Championship Final between South Africa and Australia.

“We are thrilled to bring World Cricket Connects back to Lord’s in 2025, just before a significant clash between South Africa and Australia in the ICC World Test Championship Final. We look forward to hosting many influential figures in the game to discuss the key topics affecting global cricket,” said Nicholas.

“In organizing the second event, a crucial step has been the establishment of the World Cricket Connects Advisory Board. We have gathered a remarkable group of leading minds in cricket from various domains relevant to our sport. I am excited to collaborate with this talented group and eager about what we can achieve collectively for the betterment of the global game,” Nicholas added.
