Mumbai, Dec 4 (NationPress) Indian cricket stars Shikha Pandey and Kiran Navgire are eagerly anticipating their collaboration with former Australian captain Meg Lanning at the UP Warriorz in the forthcoming season of the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2026.
The recent WPL Auction has sparked emotional highs and new beginnings for players like Shikha Pandey and Kiran Navgire, who are either transitioning to new teams or returning to familiar ones.
On JioHotstar, UP Warriorz’ latest acquisition, Shikha Pandey, and returning powerhouse Kiran Navgire expressed their emotions about the auction, sharing insights on anxious moments, team changes, and the thrill of partnering with world-class leaders ahead of the new season.
Shikha revealed her feelings during the WPL 2026 Auction, noting a sense of anxiety. “There was definitely a bit of anxiety, but I reminded myself that whatever is meant to happen, will happen. I trusted the hard work I’ve put in over the past three seasons. I’m really happy to now be part of the UP Warriorz family,” said Shikha, who has transitioned from the Delhi Capitals to the new franchise in UP Warriorz.
“I have immense gratitude for Delhi Capitals — for the opportunities, the trust, and the support from the coaching group. But now, with UP Warriorz, I’m excited that Meg Lanning will be there. Playing alongside someone like Sophie Ecclestone is something I’m truly looking forward to,” she added.
While speaking on JioHotstar, Kiran Navgire reminisced about discovering her selection while still training: “I was batting in the nets while my friends were watching the auction. As soon as my name came up, they called me, and we all watched the moment together.”
Reflecting on her return to UP Warriorz and the opportunity to play alongside Meg Lanning, Kiran expressed her long-held desire to play with the Aussie legend, who has participated in nine World Championships.
“I feel really good about this moment. I wanted to play for UP Warriorz this season. I’ve built a strong bond with the players and the staff, so I’m excited to be back. I always wanted to play with Meg Lanning, and I’m lucky she has joined our team. She has won numerous World Cups and significant matches for Australia, and even in the last two to three seasons with Delhi Capitals, she led them to the finals. All that experience will benefit us this year. I can’t wait to play with her and learn from her,” Kiran Navgire stated.
