Melbourne, Oct 7 (NationPress) Veteran pacer Mitchell Starc, who has not featured in ODIs since last November, makes his return in Australia's ODI squad against India. Alongside him, uncapped batter Matthew Renshaw receives a call-up.

On Tuesday, Australia unveiled a 15-member squad to compete in three ODIs against India, commencing on October 19. Additionally, a 14-member squad for the initial two T20 matches was announced, as Mitchell Marsh's team gears up for the upcoming T20 World Cup next year.

India's limited-overs tour kicks off with the first ODI in Perth, followed by matches in Adelaide and Sydney.

The five-match T20 series is set to begin on October 29 in Canberra, with the initial two T20s at Manuka Oval and the MCG already sold out, while fewer than 5000 tickets remain for the fifth match at the Gabba.

Marsh will lead the ODI side in the absence of Pat Cummins, who is recuperating from lumbar bone stress in preparation for the Ashes.

Starc, who stepped away from T20I cricket last month, is set to return to face a formidable Indian lineup that boasts former captains Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.

The left-armer is among four new inclusions to Australia's ODI squad following a 2-1 defeat to the Proteas, joining Renshaw, Matt Short, and Mitch Owen.

Both Owen and Renshaw are poised to potentially make their ODI debuts against India, having excelled in domestic 50-over matches. Left-hander Renshaw was previously included in the ODI squad during the Pakistan tour in 2022 but has yet to make his debut.

Excluded from the ODI squad are Aaron Hardie, Matthew Kuhnemann, and Marnus Labuschagne, with Labuschagne set to continue playing four-day cricket for Queensland in the domestic Sheffield Shield ahead of the upcoming Test series against England at the year's end.

Alex Carey will miss the first ODI in Perth as he participates in South Australia's Sheffield Shield match against Queensland at Adelaide Oval on October 15. Carey missed the opening round of the Shield due to his call-up for the T20 series against the Black Caps.

Carey has stepped away from the T20 squad for the India series, with white-ball wicketkeeper Josh Inglis recovered from a calf injury. Meanwhile, Nathan Ellis also returns following the birth of his first child.

On a different note, Maxwell is expected to remain on the sidelines for the T20 series following surgery last week for a fractured wrist sustained during training prior to the New Zealand series.

“We have announced a squad for the ODI series and first two T20 matches, anticipating some management in the latter part of the series as players prepare for the summer through Sheffield Shield cricket,” said selection chair George Bailey.

“The majority of the T20 squad will remain together as it’s a crucial period leading up to the World Cup next year; however, we are trying to balance preparations for the upcoming Test series,” he added.
