Sub-junior Women's National Hockey Championship: Mizoram, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, and Odisha Secure Semifinal Spots

Secunderabad (Telangana), Dec 3 (NationPress) Teams from Mizoram, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, and Odisha have made it to the semifinals after securing wins in their respective matches on the seventh day of the 14th Hockey India Sub-junior Women's National Championship 2024 at the South Central Railways Sports Complex here on Tuesday.

During the quarterfinal encounters held on Tuesday, Mizoram triumphed over Uttar Pradesh with a narrow 1-0 victory, Jharkhand dominated Maharashtra with a staggering 12-0 scoreline, Madhya Pradesh clinched a hard-fought 3-2 win against Haryana, and Odisha secured a 3-0 win against Delhi, thereby confirming their places in the semifinals. In the upcoming semifinals, Madhya Pradesh will face off against Mizoram, while Jharkhand will compete against Odisha on Thursday.

Hockey Mizoram started strong in the first quarterfinal, overcoming Uttar Pradesh Hockey with a score of 1-0. Both teams showcased remarkable defensive skills, leading to a stalemate until the final quarter. A penalty stroke was awarded to Hockey Mizoram with ten minutes remaining, and captain Laltlanchhungi (49’) converted to secure the win.

In the second quarterfinal, Hockey Jharkhand outclassed Hockey Maharashtra with a 12-0 victory. The scoring was led by Hemrom Leoni (1’, 16’, 36’, 49’, 57’), with additional contributions from Mundu Sukarmani (32’, 39’), Horo Thekla (42’, 53’), Rina Kullu (48’), Sanga Sugan (50’), and Manjhi Pushpa (58’).

Hockey Madhya Pradesh came from behind to claim a 3-2 victory against Hockey Haryana in the third match of the day. After Diksha (13’) opened the scoring for Hockey Haryana, Sallu Pukhrambam (34’) equalized for Madhya Pradesh. Rubi Rathore (50’, 59’) then scored twice to give Madhya Pradesh the lead, but Durga from Haryana equalized again (58’). In a dramatic finish, Rubi Rathore netted a penalty corner goal to clinch the victory for Madhya Pradesh.

The Hockey Association of Odisha took the final semifinal spot with a convincing 3-0 win over Delhi Hockey. Goals from Anjana Xaxa (36’), Lugun Shibani (57’), and Kujur Sanjna (60’) in the second half confirmed their victory.
