Tejasvi Jaiswal, the younger brother of India's star Test opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, has opened up about the pivotal role his brother and their coach Jwala Singh played in steering him back to competitive cricket — this time representing Tripura in the domestic circuit. Now 29, Tejasvi is carving out his own identity as a cricketer, currently starring for Tehri Titans in the Uttarakhand Premier League (UPL).

The Guidance That Changed Everything

Tejasvi credits both Yashasvi and coach Jwala Singh for encouraging him to revive his playing career. 'Yashasvi and Jwala sir told me to go to Tripura and start playing cricket again. So I started from there,' he said. The decision proved fruitful — Tejasvi went on to represent Tripura across all three formats, accumulating five First-class matches, eight List A games, and four T20s, registering fifties in each format.

A Remarkable Family Coincidence on 6 December 2025

One date stands out as a cherished memory for the Jaiswal family: 6 December 2025. On that very day, Yashasvi struck his maiden ODI century against South Africa in Visakhapatnam, while Tejasvi hit his maiden T20 fifty for Tripura. 'My parents were very happy that both their sons played well that day. It was a good feeling for us,' Tejasvi recalled.

The Sacrifice Behind the Dream

Tejasvi's journey back to cricket is rooted in years of selfless support for his brother. He had once set aside his own cricketing ambitions to work as a salesman in Delhi, financially backing Yashasvi as the latter pursued his dream. It was only after Yashasvi established himself at the highest level that Tejasvi found the space to pursue his own cricketing career again. 'It was not very challenging. When I got a chance to come back, I was very happy that I was getting to play cricket again,' he said.

Making His Mark in the UPL

Tejasvi has since switched his state association from Tripura to Uttarakhand and is now a prominent figure in the UPL. Playing for Tehri Titans as their 'icon player', he has scored 117 runs in four matches, including a blistering 19-ball 50. He has also scored two centuries in the Gold Cup in Uttarakhand — performances that earned him selection for the state. 'I came to Uttarakhand to play the Gold Cup so that I get selected to play from here. I had a good performance, and I am now also playing in the UPL. I want to do well in the UPL and let's see what happens next,' he said.

On Adaptability and the UPL's Importance

Tejasvi has embraced the challenge of batting across different positions for Tehri Titans. 'I have played in the middle order as well as in the top order. I don't care about the order. I care about how I can win the match, how I can play an impactful innings,' he said. He also praised the Cricket Association of Uttarakhand (CAU) for organising the UPL, calling it 'a very important league' and a 'very good opportunity for the youngsters.' Meanwhile, Yashasvi continues to cement his place as a Test regular for India, setting records and positioning himself as a strong contender for the 2027 ODI World Cup squad. With both brothers now performing across formats, the Jaiswal family story is only getting richer.
