Jaipur, May 26 (NationPress) Suryakumar Yadav has officially eclipsed Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar as the Mumbai Indian with the highest number of runs in a single IPL season.
During a recent match against Punjab Kings at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, his impressive innings of 57 pushed him past Tendulkar's previous record of 618 runs set in 2010, leading MI to a total of 184/7.
Yadav now stands at 640 runs across 14 innings, setting a new record for the most 25+ scores in one IPL edition.
His journey this season includes remarkable performances with scores of 29, 48, 27*, 67, 28, 40, 26, 68*, 40*, 54, 48*, 35, 73*, and 51*, marking his most successful season to date, surpassing his previous best of 605 runs in 2023. Currently, he ranks third in the race for the orange cap, trailing only Gujarat Titans' openers Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill.
With a striking rate of 167.98 and an impressive average of 71.11, Yadav has solidified his position among the top-performing batters this season, contributing significantly to the resurgence of the Mumbai Indians in the latter stages of the tournament. As they aim to defend their score of 184, a victory would secure them a place in the Top-2 of the standings. When questioned about his performance, Yadav emphasized that his happiness hinges on the team securing the two points.
"It was somewhat tricky. The pitch seemed a bit sticky for pacers, but spinners were manageable. I believe we could have added another 10-15 runs considering how Hardik and Naman batted from the start. Facing pace off and well-seamed deliveries will pose challenges for batters. We have a competitive score for this pitch, making it a test for us.
“I will definitely feel satisfied if we come away with a win. My favorite shots this time have been the sweep and the flick over square leg; I'm batting quite well this season," Suryakumar remarked during the mid-innings discussion with broadcasters.
