Raipur, Oct 29 (NationPress) In a pivotal achievement for Chhattisgarh’s anti-Naxal efforts, 51 Maoist members - comprising 42 men and 9 women - have opted to lay down their arms and reintegrate into society through the state's “Poona Margem: Rebirth through Rehabilitation” program, as reported by police officials.

The initiative underlines the increasing effectiveness of the government's extensive strategy aimed at fostering peace, dialogue, and development in areas afflicted by insurgency.

These individuals, collectively associated with a reward of Rs 66 lakh, include participants from PLGA Battalions No. 01 and 05, Companies No 01, 02, and 05, Area Committee Members, LOS operatives, Militia Platoon Commanders, and leaders from RPC-Jantana Sarkar, DKMS, and CNM.

Their choice to reject violence and adopt constitutional principles signifies a major ideological transformation in the ongoing conflict in the region, according to police sources.

Notable figures among the surrendered include Budhram Potam alias Ranjit, Manki Kowasi, Hungi Sodhi, and Ravindra Punem, all of whom were high-ranking operatives with bounties of Rs 8 lakh each.

Superintendent of Police Jitendra Kumar Yadav remarked, "The rehabilitation initiative is drawing in Maoists. Families of those who have returned to mainstream society desire them to lead normal lives and integrate back into the community."

He further urged Maoists to forsake their misleading ideologies and return courageously to mainstream society, paving the way for enduring peace and development in the region.

Others like Mangu Oyam, Asmati Oyam, and Motu Lekam held critical roles in militia and propaganda units. Their surrender is perceived as a significant setback to the operational framework of Maoist groups in Bijapur.

The rehabilitation plan not only provides financial rewards but also guarantees social reintegration, vocational training, and legal assistance.

Officials are confident that this compassionate approach, along with consistent security measures, is gradually dismantling the Maoist infrastructure.

In 2025 alone, 461 Maoists transitioned to mainstream society in Bijapur, while 138 were killed and 485 arrested during security operations.

Since 2024, the district has recorded 650 surrenders, 196 deaths, and 986 arrests, highlighting the dual strategy of persuasion and enforcement.

The “Poona Margem” initiative has emerged as a beacon of hope for those ensnared in the cycle of violence. By providing a dignified path to exit and rehabilitation, the state is not only reclaiming territory but also restoring lives.

As more cadres choose to abandon extremism, the message is unmistakable: the door to peace remains open, and the state is prepared to embrace those who seek it.

The surrender of these 51 individuals represents more than a tactical success; it exemplifies the transformative capability of reconciliation.
