Key Takeaways
New Delhi, March 24 (NationPress) In a bold demonstration, the Leader of the Opposition in Delhi, Atishi, joined forces with fellow AAP legislators to protest outside the Assembly on Tuesday. They accused the government of failing to supply even a single ladder for the Fire Department despite an extravagant budget of Rs 1 lakh crore.
The protestors showcased placards stating: "Budget: Rs 1 lakh crore. Fire Brigade ke paas seedhi: 1 bhi nahi", underscoring their grievances about the insufficient fire safety measures.
In an interview with IANS, Atishi lambasted the government, remarking: "The BJP government displays no shame. They feast on kheer while they should be in mourning. (Delhi Minister) Ashish Sood even insulted a family that lost nine members, placing blame on them. Despite a hefty budget of Rs 1 lakh crore, not a single ladder has been procured for fire emergencies."
AAP MLA Imran Hussain expressed his discontent, revealing that four party MLAs have faced suspension and questioning the government's priorities.
“Despite presenting a budget of Rs 1 lakh crore, not a single ladder has been bought for the Fire Department,” he stated.
Another AAP MLA, Pravesh Ratn, condemned the suspension of his colleagues, labeling the situation as inequitable.
"With our four MLAs suspended, and the entire opposition outside, what kind of budget is this?" he questioned.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta delivered the annual budget for the financial year 2026-27 in the Assembly, proposing a total budget of Rs 1,03,700 crore.
This marks her second budget presentation for the national capital. Speaker Vijender Gupta congratulated her, stating: "The CM, Rekha Gupta, is presenting Budget 2026-27. Congratulations to her; this is her second budget for Delhi."
While addressing the Assembly, CM Gupta emphasized Delhi’s resilience and economic fortitude, asserting: "Delhi possesses a distinctive identity marked by its creativity—despite repeated degradation, it has remained steadfast and successful."
"Delhi has endured challenging times over the years. In light of past corruption and vote bank politics, the city is now advancing rapidly, where not just announcements are made, but tangible actions and developments are evident in the lives of the people. Delhi is moving forward at triple-engine speed."
