Kolkata, Sep 10 (NationPress) Trinamool Congress's National General Secretary and Lok Sabha MP, Abhishek Banerjee, made serious allegations against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday, claiming they spent crores engaging in horse trading during the recent Vice-Presidential elections.
"The BJP reportedly allocated between Rs 15 crore to Rs 20 crore to buy votes for the Vice-President elections. Some Rajya Sabha members officially affiliated with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) are, in fact, siding with the BJP. Conversations with a few of them revealed how the BJP fostered a money game for the Vice-President polls," Banerjee remarked to the media at the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata, just after his return from New Delhi.
He further accused the BJP of instigating similar money games in West Bengal before the 2021 Assembly elections.
"However, they (BJP) faced defeat then. In the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections, they attempted to manipulate counting agents but failed once more. The BJP seems to overlook a crucial fact: while some public representatives may be easily swayed, the common populace remains steadfast," he added.
In response, West Bengal BJP President and Rajya Sabha MP, Samik Bhattacharya, dismissed Banerjee's allegations as baseless and a reflection of his frustrations.
"The Vice-President elections demonstrated that while the NDA stands united, the opposition INDIA bloc remains fragmented," Bhattacharya remarked.
Following the announcement of the Vice-Presidential election results on Tuesday, it was noted that the NDA candidate, C.P. Radhakrishnan, received 452 votes to defeat opposition candidate B. Sudershan Reddy, who garnered only 300 votes. Additionally, 15 votes were declared invalid.
