Adani Group, Kachchh University launch Green Energy CoE in Bhuj to train 10,000 students
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Adani Skills and Education (ASE), the skilling arm of the Adani Group, on 4 October 2026 inaugurated a Centre of Excellence (CoE) for Green Energy at Kachchh University in Bhuj, Gujarat, marking a significant step toward building a trained workforce for India's booming renewable energy sector. The facility was inaugurated by Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat and is designed to train more than 10,000 students annually through specialised programmes in renewable energy and industrial automation.
What the Centre of Excellence Offers
The CoE will deliver structured training across five core domains: Solar PV Technologies, Wind Energy Systems, Hybrid Energy Systems, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), and Digital and Industrial Automation. The curriculum also encompasses renewable energy integration, microgrids, SCADA systems, Internet of Things (IoT)-based energy applications, and smart-grid technologies.
The learning model blends classroom instruction, simulation-based training, and hands-on practical exposure — an approach designed to close the gap between academic preparation and industry readiness. The centre will additionally support applied research and entrepreneurship in the green energy space.
Why Kutch and Why Now
The initiative arrives as demand for skilled manpower in India's clean energy sector outpaces supply. According to the Adani Group, its green energy operations have generated more than 21,000 direct and indirect jobs in Gujarat's Kutch district over the past two years, creating acute demand for professionals who can build, operate, and maintain renewable infrastructure.
Kutch has emerged as a national focal point for this transition. The Adani Group is developing a 30 GW renewable energy park at Khavda, spread over 538 square kilometres — one of the largest such projects anywhere in the world. With assets of this scale requiring a sustained talent pipeline, the university-based CoE represents a direct response to that operational need.
What Industry Leaders Said
Adani Group Director Karan Adani said the renewable energy sector would be central to India's economic future. 'This global Centre of Excellence will ensure that students are equipped not only for today's jobs, but also for the emerging new opportunities across India and the world,' he said.
Robin Bhowmik, Chief Executive Officer of Adani Skills and Education, highlighted the talent gap as a structural challenge. 'By working with Kachchh University, we can bring industry requirements into the classroom, give students practical exposure to the technologies they will work with and help them move from education to employment,' he added.
India's 500 GW Backdrop
The CoE launch is set against India's national target of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel-based energy capacity by 2030. Meeting that target will require massive investments across the renewable energy value chain — and, critically, a workforce capable of executing them. This is the broader policy context in which industry-academia partnerships like this one are gaining strategic importance.
Notably, this is among the first structured green energy skilling CoEs embedded within a public university in Gujarat, signalling a potential model for replication across other energy-intensive states as India accelerates its clean-power buildout.
