Kishanganj, Sep 24 (NationPress) The chief of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), Asaduddin Owaisi, inaugurated his party's campaign for the forthcoming Bihar Assembly elections through the 'Seemanchal Nyay Yatra' and conveyed his willingness to collaborate with the Mahagathbandhan alliance, requesting to contest for six seats.
While addressing the media in Kishanganj, where the yatra commenced, Owaisi stated that AIMIM has already reached out to the Leader of Opposition in the Bihar Assembly, Tejashwi Yadav, to discuss this proposal.
"The state president of our party, Akhtarul Iman, has sent a letter to the Leader of the Opposition. We have clearly communicated through media channels that AIMIM is open to forming an alliance. Akhtarul Iman has also requested six seats in his previous correspondence," Owaisi mentioned.
"The alliance must make this decision; if they choose not to, the people of Bihar will discern who aims to empower the BJP and who seeks to impede it. The decision lies with the people of Bihar. We have done our part. We will ensure that no one can claim we did not engage in discussions. We have made our best effort to present this matter to the populace," he added.
Regarding Tejashwi Yadav's promise of job opportunities for degree holders, Owaisi remarked, "He should first investigate the school dropout rates in Bihar. How many individuals graduate? This should guide his decisions. If degrees are to be prioritized, then past records should be disclosed regarding the number of schools and colleges established."
During the yatra, Owaisi intends to conduct roadshows and hold corner meetings across various constituencies in the Seemanchal region. For over ten years, the AIMIM chief has been advocating for addressing the region's backwardness.
He even proposed a Private Member's Bill in the Lok Sabha to establish a Seemanchal Region Development Council, aimed at tackling the developmental issues faced by the region.
In the previous 2020 Bihar Assembly elections, AIMIM contested in 19 constituencies, securing victories in five: Amour, Kochadaman, Baisi, Jokihat, and Bahadurganj. However, four of its MLAs defected to the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) in 2022.
This time, the party indicates a potential increase in the number of contested seats, with several prominent leaders and social activists showing interest in running on AIMIM tickets.
