Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Guwahati, January 8 (NationPress) The regional political party in Assam, Raijor Dal, has commenced efforts to develop its manifesto for the 2026 Assam Assembly elections, as announced by party president Akhil Gogoi on Thursday.
The draft manifesto was approved during an extended executive committee meeting and is anticipated to be made public by January 15.
According to Gogoi, the final manifesto will be a people-centric document designed to reshape the future of Assam.
Party officials indicated that the draft will be subject to extensive discussions with experts from various sectors before it is finalized.
Raijor Dal plans to frame the manifesto as a comprehensive guide for governance and development in Assam, addressing the aspirations of farmers, workers, and everyday citizens.
During a media briefing, Gogoi stated that if Raijor Dal assumes power, it will strive to create a “New Assam” that includes all indigenous communities as well as all law-abiding Indian citizens living in the state.
Agriculture will be a primary focus, with initiatives to transform Assam into a multi-crop state that enables continuous farming throughout the year.
As per Sivasagar MLA, the party also intends to empower local residents to have greater control over local, inter-state, and international markets, allowing Assamese producers to compete beyond state borders.
Additionally, they proposed establishing Assam as a gateway to South-East Asian trade by opening international markets for local goods and promoting participation in online platforms and digital commerce.
Industrial development is also a fundamental aspect of the draft manifesto.
Raijor Dal has pledged to set up one or two industries in every village and urban area to create employment opportunities and eliminate unemployment in Assam.
Tourism enhancement has been prioritized, with the goal of positioning Assam as a major tourism destination in India. Gogoi stated that the “New Assam” model is built upon five main pillars: leadership by indigenous people while incorporating all communities, a revamped agricultural framework, a new trade system, an innovative industrial policy, and the transformation of Assam into a premier tourism hub.
Labeling the manifesto as “revolutionary”, Akhil Gogoi emphasized its aim to secure justice and prosperity for farmers, workers, and the general populace.
Among the commitments outlined are justice for the late singer and cultural icon Zubeen Garg through a new chargesheet, a minimum support price for farmers, and year-round farming facilities.
The party has also promised monthly financial assistance of Rs 3,000 for women, farmers over 60 years, differently-abled individuals, and third-gender persons, alongside interest-free loans for local entrepreneurs.
Other assurances include restoration of the Old Pension Scheme, free vocational training, healthcare services meeting AIIMS standards, opposition to the Citizenship Amendment Act, completion of the National Register of Citizens process, and permanent solutions to flood control and the D-voter issue.
