Will Assam See the Expulsion of Foreigners if Akhil Gogoi's Party is Elected?

Guwahati, Aug 19 (NationPress) Sivasagar MLA and leader of Raijor Dal in Assam, Akhil Gogoi, declared that the state will see the expulsion of illegal immigrants if the opposition secures power in the forthcoming assembly elections.

During a press briefing, he stated, “We are launching our campaign focused on securing the interests of the Assamese populace, and illegal intruders will be expelled from Assam if Raijor Dal takes charge in the next assembly election. This is our primary commitment if we participate in the next government.”

Gogoi emphasized that his party’s initiative is not solely about garnering votes but also about safeguarding the rights and identity of Assam’s native communities.

“Since the time of Independence, Assam has been denied its rightful advantages. Currently, the impoverished live on scant pensions - Rs 250 for the elderly, Rs 300 for widows, and Rs 1,250 under the Arunodoi scheme. We aspire for change, and we will bring it,” Gogoi asserted.

He proclaimed that if Raijor Dal ascends to power in 2026, the administration would adopt a robust stance against illegal migration and champion indigenous rights.

“As a proud Assamese and a proud Ahom, I vow that all foreign infiltrators residing on Assamese land will be removed,” he proclaimed.

Critiquing the BJP-led administration, Gogoi accused it of neglecting the protection of indigenous communities.

“The BJP professes to protect Assamese interests but capitalizes on dividing society along religious lines. If the government is earnest, it should confer Scheduled Tribe (ST) status to six indigenous groups - Moran, Ahom, Chutia, Koch Rajbongshi, Adivasi, Kalita, Nath and Madahi. Only this can ensure our people receive their rightful benefits and prevent outsiders from exploiting Assam,” he contended, while also advocating for amendments to the sixth clause of the Assam Accord.

Gogoi called for legal protections regarding land and resources, drawing comparisons with Nagaland.

“Just as no outsider can acquire land there, Assam’s territory must have constitutional safeguards. Oil, coal, and other resources should belong to the people of Assam, not be given to external corporations,” he argued.

In outlining his party’s economic strategy, Gogoi pledged to establish irrigation infrastructure to allow farmers to cultivate three times a year, guarantee fair prices for crops, and develop small and semi-industrial zones near tea gardens to create local employment.

“This will prevent our youth and women from migrating to Bangalore or other cities. We want Assamese businesses to flourish, not foreign corporations,” he emphasized.

He also highlighted tourism as a pivotal sector to promote Assam’s culture and heritage.

Gogoi concluded by promising unity: “If we form the government, Hindus, Muslims, Assamese, and all communities will coexist peacefully - in stark contrast to the BJP, which engages in politics that fosters division along religious lines.”
