Punjab Minister Slams Congress for Evading Assembly Debates
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Chandigarh, March 9 (NationPress) Punjab Cabinet minister Aman Arora on Monday criticized the Congress for evading discussions in the Assembly, labeling their track record as "politically bankrupt." He contrasted the unfulfilled pledges of the Opposition with the accomplishments of the Bhagwant Singh Mann-led government.
Arora targeted the Leader of the Opposition and other Congress figures, stating, "They proclaim to be the Leaders of the Opposition. We listened to them attentively. However, when it was our turn to present facts, they walked out, just as they did on March 6 during the Governor's Address. They boycott discussions without listening or reading, aiming to evade Punjab's pressing issues. They are fleeing because they realize their five-year tenure will not withstand examination."
Holding the Congress party's 2017 manifesto, Arora challenged them to demonstrate even one promise they fulfilled during their five years in power.
He cited their flagship 'Ghar-Ghar Rozgar' scheme and the unemployment allowance of Rs 2,500 per month for each unemployed youth, which would total Rs 1.5 lakh over five years. "Can you identify even one youth in Punjab who received this support from you?" he questioned.
In contrast, he highlighted that the Mann-led government has created over 63,000 government jobs for the youth within four years. He also reminded Congress of their commitment to establishing mohalla clinics.
"You imitated Arvind Kejriwal’s Delhi model, promising a clinic for every 1,000 individuals. Yet, not a single one was constructed. In comparison, we have established 881 such facilities and are poised to launch an additional 240."
Regarding sports infrastructure, he accused the previous government of utter failure, saying, "You (the Congress) pledged a sports complex in every village but built none. Our government has constructed 3,100 and is planning to add 6,000 more in this budget."
