Guwahati, April 7 (NationPress) On Tuesday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah emphasized the efforts of the Narendra Modi administration in enhancing Assam's cultural identity during a public rally in Hailakandi district. HM Shah asserted that PM Modi has been instrumental in showcasing Assam’s cultural symbols globally.

He pointed out that the traditional Assamese ‘gamocha’ has received international acclaim under the BJP's governance. In a subtle jab at Rahul Gandhi, Shah remarked that the Congress leader had previously refused to wear the gamocha during a Republic Day event.

Shah further stated that the Modi administration honored the legacy of Ahom general Lachit Borphukan by erecting a magnificent statue in New Delhi, ensuring his bravery is acknowledged on a global platform.

Discussing land rights for tea garden workers, Shah revealed that the BJP government has issued land ownership pattas to approximately 3.5 lakh families across 707 tea gardens. “The initial phase has already been completed in 106 gardens across 20 districts,” he noted, adding that this initiative is designed to empower tea garden communities.

The Home Minister also highlighted significant policy decisions, including the abolition of triple talaq, which he claimed the Congress party had resisted.

He mentioned that the Assam government has transformed 402 madrasas into primary schools as a part of educational reforms.

Advocating for the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), Shah stated it would promote equality by banning practices such as multiple marriages.

He encouraged voters to back the BJP in the forthcoming elections to facilitate the UCC's enactment in the state.

On the welfare front, Shah pledged increased financial support for farmers, proposing to raise annual aid from Rs 6,000 to Rs 11,000. He also announced subsidies for tractor purchases for 10,000 farmers, along with guaranteed procurement of paddy, maize, and mustard at Minimum Support Price.

Additionally, he promised free education for underprivileged children from kindergarten to postgraduate levels, free rice distribution, subsidized essential goods, and a monthly Direct Benefit Transfer of Rs 3,000 for women if the BJP regains power in the state.

Earlier that day, he launched a pointed critique of the Congress during a large election rally in Patharkandi, located in Assam’s Sribhumi district, claiming that only the BJP can protect the state from illegal immigration and safeguard its cultural identity.

Shah asserted that the BJP government has already pinpointed infiltrators and pledged to remove them “one by one” if the party returns to power.

He accused illegal migrants of usurping jobs, ration benefits, and wages intended for local youth, impoverished families, and tea garden workers.

“With BJP-NDA governments in Assam, West Bengal, and Tripura, we will completely eradicate infiltration,” he proclaimed.
