New Delhi, Dec 7 (NationPress) On this Armed Forces Flag Day, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh conveyed his heartfelt greetings to the personnel of the Indian Armed Forces, commending their bravery and sacrifices made for the nation.
Since 1949, December 7 has been commemorated as Armed Forces Flag Day across India to pay tribute to the martyrs and soldiers who have fought courageously and continue to defend the country’s dignity.
This day serves as a reminder of our national unity and aims to generate funds for the welfare of war-disabled soldiers, Veer Naris, and their families through public donations.
In a post on X, Singh expressed, "On Armed Forces Flag Day, I honor the valour and commitment of our armed forces. Their bravery protects our nation, and their selfless service is a debt we cannot repay. I encourage everyone to contribute generously to the Armed Forces Flag Day Fund. Your support acknowledges their dedication and bolsters those who safeguard us."
Earlier, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan also sent his regards to all soldiers, veterans, and Veer Naris of the Indian Armed Forces, recognizing their unwavering spirit and essential role in India's defense and national security.
Union Minister of State for Defence, Sanjay Seth, took to social media to commend the Indian Armed Forces for their significant contributions to the nation.
"Armed Forces Flag Day is a moment to nationally appreciate the dedication, duty, and sacrifices of our courageous soldiers, ex-servicemen, and Veer Naris. The flag hoisting by Brigadier D.S. Basera, VSM, Secretary of the Central Soldiers' Board, is a proud occasion for me," Seth noted on X.
He further urged citizens to contribute to the Armed Forces Flag Day Fund.
"Let’s reinforce this vital initiative for the welfare of our military forces," he added.
Upon gaining independence, the Government of India prioritized the welfare of its Armed Forces. A committee established by the defense minister chose August 28, 1949, to mark December 7 as Flag Day each year.
The aim of Flag Day is to collect funds by distributing small flags to the public. Its importance is heightened by the fact that it is the responsibility of India's civilian population to support the spouses and dependents of military service members.
