Kolkata, June 15 (NationPress) The Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, on Sunday made serious allegations against the state police, claiming they entered the BJP’s office in Bankura district like “thieves and dacoits” and attempted “to break the gate and barge in under the cover of darkness”.
According to Adhikari, this incident occurred around 2 a.m. on Sunday, involving officers from the Khatra and Bankura Police Stations.
“This shameless display of so-called ‘power’ was met with strong resistance from our courageous BJP Karyakartas and local leaders, who stood resolutely against this cowardly act of intimidation. Is this what Mamata's police have devolved into; sneaking around at night to target opposition workers while ignoring real criminals?” Adhikari stated on his official X account.
The LoP pointed out that the same police force remained inactive regarding a leader like Anubrata Mondal, who was recently recorded in a viral video threatening a police officer from Birbhum district, making vile comments about his family.
“Where is this audacity when it comes to addressing TMC’s infamous 'lumpen' Anubrata Mondal? This is the same police force that shrinks in fear when confronted by TMC goons and their lawless actions. Just weeks ago, an audio clip surfaced of Mondal launching vile threats and abusive language at Bolpur’s Inspector-in-Charge, directing obscenities towards his family. Yet, what did the SPINELESS Police do? NOTHING,” Adhikari’s statement read.
LoP Adhikari also raised concerns about the police's role during recent clashes between two groups in Maheshtala, South 24 Parganas last week.
“One can’t overlook the SURRENDER gesture by the Mamata Police in Maheshtala, waving white handkerchiefs at stone-pelting assailants. Bloody Cowards,” Adhikari remarked.
Furthermore, he recalled how, during the communal violence in the minority-affected Murshidabad district in April, local police took refuge in nearby shops when faced with rioters.
“The people of Bengal deserve a police force that flexes its muscle against the Opposition and common citizens but retreats when faced with TMC’s thugs or other lawbreakers who find shelter under the TMC Party. This is not law enforcement; it’s a comedy act staged by clowns who have lost all respect among the people of West Bengal,” Adhikari’s statement continued.
While condemning the police for their attempt to unlawfully enter the party office at night without proper justification or documentation, Adhikari shared a video showing police officers inside the office arguing with party workers.
