Kolkata, Nov 2 (NationPress) On Sunday, the police addressed the allegations made by the Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, following his claims that the Inspector-In-Charge of the Kotwali police station misbehaved with participants during the immersion of Jagaddhatri Puja in Krishnanagar, located in Nadia district.
In a post on his official X account on Saturday, LoP Adhikari condemned a police officer for allegedly perpetrating violence against the attendees.
“During the immersion of the Jagaddhatri Puja in Krishnanagar, the remarks made by Inspector-In-Charge Amalendu Biswas while committing unjust acts against Hindus clearly illustrate how Mamata Banerjee’s police force perceives Hindus,” stated Adhikari, who accompanied his claims with an alleged video of the occurrence.
He further criticized the police for their inability to maintain law and order during the immersion, despite prior arrangements.
In response, the Krishnanagar district police issued a statement, indirectly addressing the BJP leader's remarks, indicating that police had to employ a cane charge to prevent harassment of women.
The police condemned attempts to paint the incident with a communal brush and refuted the allegations made by the LoP.
According to a statement from the Krishnanagar District Police on their official X account, “The immersion of Jagaddhatri Puja across Krishnanagar on October 31, 2025, was carried out smoothly, with no significant disruptions. Over 200 idols participated in the two-day procession. The only reported disturbance occurred at Kadamtala Ghat, where members of the Chokerpara Club allegedly attempted to harass and assault female police officers.”
The police further stated, “To manage the situation, a mild cane charge was enacted to disperse the troublemakers and restore order. There have been previous allegations of violence and vandalism during the immersion processions involving the Chokerpara Club.”
Additionally, the police confirmed that a case has been filed at the Kotwali Police Station.
