Bengaluru Techie and Infant Found Dead; Suicide Note Indicates Accidental Drowning
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bengaluru, April 2 (NationPress) A tech professional and her 11-month-old child were discovered deceased under questionable circumstances at their home in Bengaluru, according to police reports on Thursday.
The individuals have been identified as Pratibha Wali, a software engineer, and her infant son. Authorities found a suicide note indicating that she made this tragic decision following her child's accidental drowning in a bucket filled with water.
A complaint was lodged by her husband, Mahantesh Wali (32), who works as an engineer at a private company in Peenya. He mentioned that the family had been residing in a rented property in Byraveshwarnagar, located off Nagarbhavi Main Road, under the jurisdiction of the Chandralayout Police Station, for the last four years.
As per the complaint, Mahantesh departed for work around 9 a.m. on April 1, while Pratibha was working from home. Upon his return at approximately 6:30 p.m., he found the door locked from within. Despite repeated attempts to get a response, he received no answer, and calls to Pratibha’s mobile went unanswered.
He used a spare key hidden near a window to access the house. Inside, he discovered his wife hanging from a ceiling hook with a saree. He also observed lacerations on her left wrist, which appeared to have been self-inflicted, along with traces of blood.
Their infant son was found unresponsive on a bed and was subsequently pronounced dead.
Police reported that a handwritten note in English was recovered at the scene. In the note, Pratibha allegedly expressed that her child had fallen into water and died, and that she felt unable to save him, pleading for forgiveness.
She wrote, “I had hung clothes out to dry and went to the terrace to retrieve them. During this time, the child, while playing, entered the wash area. The child drowned in a bucket. I couldn't save my baby. I am accountable for my child’s demise. Hence, I am ending my life.”
An empty packet of Dolo 650 tablets was also discovered near the body, leading to suspicions that she may have ingested them prior to her death.
The police indicated that she might have initially attempted suicide by taking tablets and injuring her wrists. As there was no substantial bleeding, it is believed she later died by hanging.
A case has been registered under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita based on the complaint. The complainant has raised concerns regarding the circumstances of the deaths, prompting police to launch an investigation to determine the precise cause and sequence of events.
