Bengaluru, April 9 (NationPress) The Karnataka BJP’s ‘Janakrosh Yatra’, initiated in opposition to the government regarding price increases and reservation for Muslims in public works tenders, commenced its third day on Wednesday. During the rally, a BJP leader referred to the state administration as a regime of 'jihadis' and 'Tughlaqs'.
Thousands of BJP members and leaders took part in the protest march held in Madikeri city, spearheaded by the Leader of the Opposition (LoP) R. Ashoka.
The Janakrosh Yatra is also set to unfold in the communally sensitive Mangaluru district, recognized as a BJP stronghold.
At a public gathering in Madikeri, former BJP state President Nalin Kumar Kateel asserted, “There is no Siddaramaiah government in the state; this is a government of jihadis and Tughlaqs.”
Kateel claimed that the yatra was launched to contest the anti-people policies of the Siddaramaiah government and to instigate its demise.
He alleged that while there existed a policy of ‘suppressing’ the Hindu community, incidents of cow slaughter continued unabated throughout the state.
He further contended that the wave of murders, which commenced with the killing of a Jain monk in Belagavi, has persisted under CM Siddaramaiah’s administration.
“The Congress has forgotten all the commitments made after assuming power and is acting in an anti-people fashion,” stated BJP state President and MLA B.Y. Vijayendra while addressing the crowd at the yatra.
He remarked, “During elections, the Congress staged a performance around irrigation concerns. They undertook two padyatras—one towards the Krishna River and another towards the Mekedatu project. Siddaramaiah, who became Chief Minister by securing votes under the AHINDA banner, has now neglected all backward communities.”
“There are more than 100 backward communities in the state. However, the Congress has overlooked them and is concentrating solely on minorities, particularly the Muslim community. In contrast, the BJP has engaged in pro-people struggles even in the absence of elections,” he asserted.
He claimed that in the 20 months since Congress assumed power in the state, over 50 essential items have seen price hikes, resulting in severe distress for the public.
“Consequently, the same individuals who voted for Siddaramaiah and the Congress government are now expressing their frustration,” he noted.
“They have raised petrol and diesel prices. They have also increased milk prices three times within just 20 months, totaling an increase of Rs 9. Poor families are now compelled to spend more to provide nutritious milk for their children,” he criticized.
“Siddaramaiah claims the price of gas cylinders has surged by Rs 50. However, he is only revealing part of the truth. In March 2023, the cost of a gas cylinder was Rs 1,107. Today, even with a Rs 50 hike, it is Rs 850. The Prime Minister Narendra Modi government had reduced the price by Rs 300,” Vijayendra highlighted.
“You’ve raised milk prices by Rs 9. Was there any increase in international prices that justified this? Tell the public,” he demanded.
Vijayendra further alleged, “The Congress, which came to power using the AHINDA slogan, particularly Siddaramaiah, has misappropriated Rs 38,500 crore allocated for the social and educational development of Scheduled Castes and Tribes. Furthermore, the government’s decision to reserve 4 per cent in public works for Muslims is unconstitutional.”
The public meeting also featured attendance from former minister B. Sriramulu, MP Yaduveer Wadiyar, Legislative Council Chief Whip N. Ravikumar, State Vice President M. Rajendra, Kodagu District President Ravi Kalappa, State Farmers' Wing President A.S. Patil Nadahalli, regional in-charge Uday Kumar Shetty, Rajesh Kaveri, former district president Robin Devaiah, Bharateesh, and numerous party leaders and workers.
