BJP Criticizes West Bengal for Ignoring Central Aspirational Blocks Programme
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, March 10 (NationPress) Amit Malviya, the Chief of the IT Cell for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the party's central observer for West Bengal, has sharply criticized the Mamata Banerjee administration for its absence in the Central government's Aspirational Blocks Programme, which is facilitated through NITI Aayog.
In a post on his official X account, Malviya pointed out that the West Bengal government has not provided any formal explanation for its decision to abstain from this initiative.
"The Aspirational Blocks Programme was launched by the Central government via NITI Aayog to stimulate growth in the most disadvantaged blocks of India, concentrating on areas such as health, education, nutrition, agriculture, and basic infrastructure. Alarmingly, West Bengal stands as the sole state in the country that has opted out of this programme," he stated.
According to Malviya, participation in this programme would have benefited numerous districts in West Bengal, particularly those facing economic challenges.
"The Union government's response in the Rajya Sabha identified 29 backward blocks across 10 districts of West Bengal under this initiative. Many of these blocks are located in economically struggling and Maoist-affected areas such as parts of Bankura, Purulia, and Jhargram. Yet, the state government has chosen to remain disengaged and has failed to communicate any official reasoning to the Centre," he added.
He further condemned the state government for its lack of cooperation with the Central authorities on this matter.
"This refusal means that countless families residing in some of the poorest blocks of Bengal are missing out on essential development support—including improved schools, healthcare services, nutrition initiatives, agricultural assistance, and infrastructure enhancements. Despite the Central government sending multiple requests urging West Bengal to join the programme, the state continues to be uncooperative," Malviya concluded.
He raised a critical question: "Why should the most impoverished individuals in Bengal endure hardship due to political obstinacy?"
This incident marks yet another instance where the Mamata Banerjee-led government has obstructed the implementation of Central schemes in the state.
The BJP has previously accused the state government of hindering initiatives such as Ayushman Bharat, PM-Awas Yojana, and PM-Kisan Yojana, consequently denying the populace of their benefits.
