Chennai, Nov 19 (NationPress) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Tamil Nadu expressed strong disapproval of the burning of an effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Coimbatore on Wednesday. The party has called for the state government to implement the National Security Act (NSA) against those responsible.
BJP spokesperson A.N.S. Prasad accused the DMK of purposefully inciting anti-government factions to conduct black flag protests and burn the Prime Minister's effigy during his visit.
He claimed that groups like the Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam and other fringe organizations were secretly supported by the DMK administration to undermine the respectability of the event.
During his visit, Prime Minister Modi inaugurated the South India Natural Farming Conference at the CODISSIA campus in Coimbatore.
He launched Rs 18,000 crore in funding for nine crore farmers across the nation as part of the 21st installment of the PM-KISAN scheme, which provides Rs 6,000 annually to qualifying farmers.
Prime Minister Modi also engaged with farmers at the event.
Prasad highlighted that while the Prime Minister's visit was meant to promote natural agriculture and honor farmers, DMK-affiliated groups resorted to cheap theatrics like waving black flags and burning effigies.
He emphasized that such actions brought shame and embarrassment to Tamil Nadu, particularly as the state hosted a significant national conference honoring farmers.
According to Prasad, these protests are part of a consistent trend where DMK-supported organizations demonstrate every time the Prime Minister visits Tamil Nadu.
He asserted that these actions are aimed solely at gaining electoral advantage and creating a hostile political atmosphere.
Demanding immediate action, he called on the Tamil Nadu government to arrest all individuals involved in the effigy-burning incident under the National Security Act.
He stated that the BJP would staunchly oppose any attempts to defame Prime Minister Modi, whom he described as a leader deeply valued by the people of Tamil Nadu.
Prasad concluded by asserting that no amount of propaganda or defamation by the DMK, Congress, or the INDIA bloc could diminish the bond between Prime Minister Modi and the people of Tamil Nadu.
