PM Modi Expresses Disappointment Over Women's Reservation Bill Failure at Coimbatore Rally, Critiques DMK
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Coimbatore, April 18 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his profound disappointment regarding the failure to enact the Women’s Reservation Bill during a significant election rally in Coimbatore on Saturday. This rally was aimed at supporting candidates from the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in light of the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly polls.
As the campaigning phase approaches its end on Tuesday, political entities have ramped up their efforts to connect with the electorate before the voting day.
In a show of strength, Prime Minister Modi previously conducted a roadshow in Nagercoil on April 15 and then continued his campaign in Coimbatore, addressing a gathering at the CODISSIA Grounds around 6 p.m.
Upon arriving at Coimbatore airport, he made his way to the event via a roadshow, which attracted large audiences throughout his route.
The rally also saw the presence of AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami and leaders from allied parties.
During his speech, Prime Minister Modi introduced the NDA candidates representing Coimbatore, Tiruppur, and the Nilgiris, expressing his conviction that the alliance would secure victory in the state.
“The citizens of Tamil Nadu have decisively indicated that the NDA will triumph while the DMK will face defeat,” he declared, emphasizing that Coimbatore has consistently championed development-driven politics.
On the topic of the Women’s Reservation Bill, the Prime Minister lamented its inability to pass, stating, “It is disheartening that such a crucial initiative for women’s empowerment has not succeeded. I had hoped for more women from everyday backgrounds to participate in politics.”
In a fierce critique of the ruling DMK and its ally, Congress, Prime Minister Modi accused them of fostering a “politics of hatred,” which he claimed contributed to the Bill's failure. He characterized Tamil Nadu as a vital contributor to India’s growth and acknowledged its economic significance.
Furthermore, the Prime Minister accused the DMK government of perpetuating “family rule” and lacking transparency, contrasting this with the emergence of leaders from non-political backgrounds within the NDA framework.
He raised concerns about corruption in the state, including issues tied to the TASMAC liquor network, promising a comprehensive investigation should the NDA come to power.
Modi accused the DMK of targeting Coimbatore out of political malice and urged female voters to interrogate the ruling party on why the “golden opportunity” presented by the Women’s Reservation Bill was obstructed.
