Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bagalkot (Karnataka), April 7 (NationPress) BJP candidate for the Bagalkot Assembly constituency, Veeranna Charantimath, stated that the party is experiencing a response beyond expectations in both rural and urban regions. Speaking to the press on Tuesday, he emphasized that the campaign has highlighted the necessity for strong leadership that advocates effectively for the populace.
He urged voters to reject what he labeled as a “Tughlaq government”.
Charantimath claimed that justice for flood-affected individuals has been lacking and that corruption has escalated alarmingly.
“When we were in power, we successfully distributed land titles to 2,100 individuals. In the past three years, not a single title has been allocated,” he asserted, noting that development initiatives are progressing at a sluggish rate.
He further alleged that even after spending between Rs 2.5 crore and Rs 3 crore, residents still struggle to acquire land. “The government makes reckless promises. They claim they will offer Rs 30 lakh or Rs 40 lakh,” he stated, criticizing the current administration.
Charantimath accused the ruling party of using promises of a medical college and Gandhi Bhavan merely as election ploys.
The Congress party has nominated Umesh Meti to challenge former MLA Charantimath. Umesh Meti is the son of the late H.Y. Meti, whose passing has led to the need for by-elections.
BJP Legislative Council member P.H. Pujar has criticized the state government, claiming it is more focused on delivering speeches than on providing adequate funding for irrigation.
He pointed out that even the Chief Minister's Economic Advisor, Basavaraj Rayareddy, has noted that the government appears to have neglected the Krishna Upper Canal project.
Pujar highlighted that although there were assurances for increased budget allocations, only Rs 2,600 crore has been set aside.
Expressing his concerns, he mentioned that at the current funding rate, it could take 20–25 years to complete the project. He added that despite the government having been in power for three years, there has been minimal progress, resulting in public dissatisfaction.
Pujar also asserted that there is a significant wave of support for the BJP throughout the constituency and expressed confidence that voters will not be influenced by money or liquor.
