Is BJP Demanding ‘Protection Money’ for BRS Leaders?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Hyderabad, Feb 5 (NationPress) Accusing the BRS and BJP of colluding for municipal elections, Telangana's Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy claimed on Thursday that the BJP is demanding 'protection money' to safeguard BRS leaders involved in various scandals.
He challenged the BJP-led central government to take action against former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) and his son K. T. Rama Rao (KTR) regarding the Kaleshwaram and Formula E race controversies, respectively.
During a public gathering supporting the Congress party's municipal election campaign, the Chief Minister questioned why the BJP has yet to arrest KCR and Harish Rao for supposed irregularities in the Kaleshwaram project and KTR for the Formula E race scandal.
“If the BJP does not have a hidden agreement with BRS, it should detain the BRS leaders before the municipal polls,” he argued.
The Chief Minister criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for declining to fulfill the state's request for a CBI investigation into the Kaleshwaram scam and further inquiries into the Formula E race scandal.
He reminded the audience that a resolution had been passed in the Assembly and forwarded to the Centre, seeking a CBI probe into the Kaleshwaram issue, questioning the lack of action even after six months.
“It was PM Modi who stated that the Kaleshwaram project has turned into an ATM for KCR. Why has no CBI investigation been initiated to date?” he inquired.
The CM challenged Bandi Sanjay, the Union Minister of State for Home, to persuade the Prime Minister to authorize a CBI inquiry into the Kaleshwaram scam and detain KCR.
He revealed that the state government had sent a letter requesting permission for an inquiry against an IAS officer linked to the Formula E race case, yet had received no response.
He criticized the BJP for allegedly neglecting the state government's requests to sanction significant development projects, including national project status for the Palamuru Rangareddy lift project, funding for the Musi project, and Metro Rail Phase-2.
He accused the BJP of failing to allocate any funds for Telangana's development, stating, “Your national president visited here and achieved nothing for Telangana.”
He pointed out that the BJP national President Nitin Nabin did not mention the national project status for the Palamuru project during his visit to Mahabubnagar and similarly did not address the second phase of the Metro Rail or funding for the Musi river development project.
Furthermore, the CM alleged that BRS assisted the BJP in winning eight MP seats during the Lok Sabha elections.
The Chief Minister challenged both the BJP and BRS to debate the development of Telangana under BRS's decade-long rule, the BJP's twelve years at the Centre, and the two years of Congress governance in the state.
Revanth Reddy claimed that Telangana has descended into significant financial distress due to excessive borrowing during the BRS regime.
He urged the public to grant a decisive mandate to Congress in the municipal elections, asserting that Congress workers should ensure the BJP does not secure a single seat. He reiterated Congress's commitment to govern the state for the next eight years despite opposition challenges.
He pledged to elevate Telangana to the top state in the nation, announcing plans for an outer ring road around Karimnagar.
