New Delhi, April 13 (NationPress) Former Australian cricket star Brett Lee delivered a heartfelt tribute to the iconic vocalist Asha Bhosle, reminiscing about their exceptional musical partnership following her death at the age of 92.

The unique collaboration between Lee and Bhosle gained significant attention in 2007 with the launch of the hit track You're the One for Me, which united fans of both cricket and music, ultimately achieving great popularity.

Reflecting on this memorable experience, Lee expressed his feelings on social media:

“I had the honor of co-writing and recording You’re the One for Me with Asha Bhosle in 2006. I will forever be grateful for that opportunity. What stood out the most was not only her remarkable talent but also her kindness and humility. Despite her immense achievements, she exuded warmth and generosity.”

“My thoughts are with her family and friends during this difficult time. I feel incredibly fortunate to have shared even a brief moment with such an extraordinary person. There’s no doubt her legacy will endure for generations,” Lee shared on Instagram, alongside a photo with the legendary singer.

In his autobiography, My Life: Brett Lee, he recounted the unforgettable collaboration, revealing that the music video was filmed during his trip to India for the 2006 Champions Trophy. He even contributed his voice to Hindi lines in the song, including “Haan, main tumhara hu, tumhara hi rahunga.”

“It was a fantastic experience. I didn't disclose my plans to my teammates; I simply told them I was going for a stroll. Four months after that whirlwind recording adventure, I met Asha again when she performed at the Opera House in Sydney. She gifted me her compilation album, complete with a personally signed message. It remains one of my most cherished possessions,” Lee wrote in his book.

Lee mentioned that he penned the lyrics for the song in approximately 30 minutes, an experience that allowed him to explore a different creative avenue.

“I had to demonstrate my singing ability. I passed the test by performing a few songs in a room at the team hotel. Shamir seemed pleased with the outcome. I was informed a song from the compilation would be selected for me, but there was only one modification I wanted to make,” he recounted.

Expressing his admiration for Bhosle, Lee noted, “She is a lovely gentlewoman with a fantastic sense of humor. What an incredible opportunity it was to collaborate with an absolute legend. At that time, she was in her 70s, having sung thousands of songs for Bollywood films and released numerous albums. She was the Aretha Franklin of Indian music.”

Bhosle was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital on Saturday and passed away on Sunday, marking the conclusion of a remarkable era in Indian music.
