Amaravati, April 2 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, N. Chandrababu Naidu, urged citizens on Thursday to celebrate across all villages in the Amaravati region following the passage of a Bill in Parliament that grants Amaravati official recognition as the sole and permanent capital of Andhra Pradesh.
During a tele-conference with NDA leaders, he emphasized that celebratory activities should take place in every village on Thursday evening, after the Bill's approval in the Rajya Sabha.
"This is a moment for everyone to rejoice in our capital in whatever way they see fit. It is crucial that we show our appreciation to the Central Government for the ratification of the Amaravati Bill today," he stated.
The Chief Minister revealed that he would travel to Uddandarayunipalem, the site where the foundation stone for the capital city was laid, to partake in the festivities.
Uddandarayunipalem holds significant spiritual value, as it contains soil and water sourced from various sacred pilgrimage destinations across the nation, he added.
The Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2026 had been approved by the Lok Sabha on Wednesday and was anticipated to receive approval in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday.
Once the Bill is sanctioned in the Rajya Sabha, the legislative process in Parliament will be deemed complete, he noted.
Naidu expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for their support in ensuring stability for the capital city. He also thanked all political parties that backed the Bill.
He criticized former Chief Minister and YSR Congress Party leader, Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, claiming that for five years, he neglected the state by not establishing a capital.
Naidu further condemned his predecessor for proposing a new initiative named 'Mavigun', suggesting that this illustrated the peak of animosity towards Amaravati.
"Jagan clearly avoids even mentioning Amaravati, which is why he created this odd name, Mavigun," he remarked.
Jagan declared on Wednesday that the YSRCP had also presented a backup plan to develop the Machilipatnam-Vijayawada-Guntur (Mavigun) corridor as the capital region; however, it was not taken into account by the coalition government.
Naidu recalled that previously, when a program was named "SRM Amaravati," Jagan had it renamed simply to "SRM."
"The very mention of Amaravati seems to repel Jagan, and he continuously expresses disdain toward it. Recent developments have made it clear that Jagan's negative stance on Amaravati is unlikely to change in the future," he stated.
The Chief Minister called on all citizens to adopt the sentiment "Amaravati is our capital."
"Everyone should pray for the smooth and successful development that we envision," he added.
"Critics have mocked us for the past five years, questioning if we truly plan to have three capital cities. Today marks the moment we can proclaim with pride that Amaravati is our one and only capital city," he stated.
He reiterated that the government is committed to establishing a High Court Bench in Kurnool as soon as possible.
Minister Nadendla Manohar of the Jana Sena Party and BJP State President Madhav participated in the teleconference and celebrated the Bill's passage.
They announced that both the Jana Sena and the BJP would take part in the celebrations scheduled for that evening.
