In an interview with IANS, Sajid Rauf Khan, who made the trip from Meerut to Sarai Kale Khan station in Delhi, remarked that the journey now takes only 55 minutes, a substantial reduction from the previous duration of approximately two hours.
“My journey was exceptionally enjoyable. What used to require around two hours is now accomplished in just 55 minutes,” he stated, extending his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for initiating this project. Khan emphasized that the rapid rail service would greatly benefit daily commuters and business travelers by saving them valuable time.
Another traveler, Shashi Chand Mangal, who was headed from Sarai Kale Khan to Modinagar, expressed pride in India's progress. "Mera desh badal raha hai," he said, sending his best wishes to the Prime Minister and hoping for continuous development.
Commuter Anil Kumar Saini also expressed his satisfaction with the new services and conveyed his thanks to the Prime Minister, highlighting that the modern trains would significantly enhance the travel experience for thousands.
These sentiments emerged a day after Prime Minister Modi inaugurated the Meerut Metro and Namo Bharat train at Shatabdi Nagar station, signifying a pivotal advancement in regional connectivity between Delhi and western Uttar Pradesh.
During the ceremony, the Prime Minister also dedicated the 82-km Delhi–Meerut Namo Bharat Corridor to the nation and inaugurated crucial segments of the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS), including various stretches in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh. He even took a ride on the metro and engaged with passengers and students on board.
Engineered for high speeds, the Namo Bharat system aims to significantly reduce travel times between Delhi and key urban centers like Ghaziabad, Modinagar, and Meerut, while also alleviating road congestion and pollution.
Officials noted that the integrated rapid transit and metro services set a new standard in modern, sustainable public transport infrastructure in India.
