Key Takeaways
Meerut, Feb 22 (NationPress) A significant crowd assembled in Meerut on Sunday as anticipation built for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's public rally, where he is poised to unveil and dedicate development projects valued at approximately ₹12,930 crore to the nation. The Prime Minister is also scheduled to address a public meeting later in the day.
Excited supporters, local residents, and party workers began arriving at the venue well in advance, many brandishing flags and chanting slogans. The excitement was particularly palpable regarding the launch of the Namo Bharat rapid rail and Meerut Metro, which are anticipated to greatly enhance regional connectivity.
One attendee characterized the project as a “substantial gift” for the region, emphasizing its benefits not only for Meerut but also for neighboring districts like Shamli and Muzaffarnagar, along with parts of Uttarakhand, including Haridwar. “Now, Meerut will feel much closer to Delhi,” the attendee remarked, expressing hopes for quicker daily commutes.
An RLD worker present at the event deemed the development “historic,” pointing out that commuters had long faced severe traffic congestion on routes connecting Meerut to the national capital. “People used to endure long traffic jams. Now they will travel from Meerut to Delhi in record time,” he stated while expressing gratitude to the Prime Minister.
Officials revealed that PM Modi will officially launch the Meerut Metro and the Namo Bharat train from the Shatabdi Nagar Namo Bharat Station at around 12:30 p.m. He will subsequently inaugurate the entire 82-km Delhi–Meerut Namo Bharat Corridor.
Key segments include the 5-km stretch connecting Sarai Kale Khan and New Ashok Nagar in Delhi, as well as the 21-km section linking Meerut South and Modipuram in Uttar Pradesh.
Officials noted that the corridor is set to reduce travel times, alleviate road congestion, and stimulate economic growth throughout the National Capital Region and surrounding areas.
The Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Namo Bharat corridor, spanning 82.15 km, represents India's inaugural Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS), connecting Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi to Modipuram in Uttar Pradesh.
The Meerut Metro will cover a 23-km stretch within the city and will share tracks and infrastructure with the Namo Bharat rapid rail in the Meerut area. This integration will significantly enhance commuting for thousands of passengers, enabling seamless transfers between the two services without exiting the station area.
