Lucknow, Feb 22 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath, expressed on Sunday that a new era is about to unfold in the state's development journey, coinciding with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's inauguration of the Meerut Metro and the Namo Bharat train later today.
The Prime Minister will inaugurate the Meerut Metro and the Namo Bharat train at Shatabdi Nagar Namo Bharat Station—key infrastructures designed to revolutionize regional connectivity and enhance urban mobility in the National Capital Region (NCR).
CM Yogi highlighted this inauguration as a significant example of integrated urban and regional transportation.
In a post on X, the Chief Minister stated, "A new golden chapter is about to be inscribed in the development narrative of 'Naya Uttar Pradesh (New Uttar Pradesh)'. Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the 'Meerut Metro' and 'Namo Bharat' train in the transformative region of Meerut, propelling the advancement of 'Naya Uttar Pradesh'."
He added, "Additionally, the Prime Minister will present the district of Meerut—with its modern connectivity—numerous development and public welfare initiatives totaling around Rs 12,930 crore." CM Yogi further mentioned that the Prime Minister will dedicate the 82 km long Delhi-Meerut Namo Bharat Corridor to the nation and inaugurate the remaining segments of the RRTS.
The outstanding operational segments include the 5-km stretch between Sarai Kale Khan and New Ashok Nagar in Delhi, alongside the 21-km stretch from Meerut South to Modipuram in Uttar Pradesh.
"This initiative will establish a new standard for integrated urban and regional transportation. A warm welcome and heartfelt congratulations to Prime Minister ji on the auspicious land of Uttar Pradesh," the Chief Minister reiterated.
The Namo Bharat system, engineered for speeds up to 180 kmph, is anticipated to drastically reduce travel time between Delhi and significant urban hubs such as Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Modinagar, and Meerut.
The Sarai Kale Khan station, the starting point of the corridor, has been developed into a major multimodal hub, connecting the Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station, the Delhi Metro's Pink Line, Veer Haqeeqat Rai ISBT, and Ring Road. Three additional stations—Shatabdi Nagar, Begumpul, and Modipuram—in Meerut will also be activated.
Moreover, the Prime Minister will inaugurate the Meerut Metro services between Meerut South and Modipuram. This groundbreaking initiative in India will see the Metro utilizing the same infrastructure as the Namo Bharat RRTS. With a maximum operational speed of around 120 kmph, it will become the fastest Metro system in the country, covering the distance in about 30 minutes with all scheduled stops.
Officials stated that the integrated operation of regional rapid transit and urban Metro services on shared infrastructure creates a new benchmark for multimodal public transport.
The projects are expected to alleviate road congestion, lower vehicular emissions, and provide faster, sustainable mobility throughout the region.
These initiatives are part of the government's extensive efforts to modernize public transport and improve the quality of living through efficient, eco-friendly infrastructure.
