New Delhi, Sep 1 (NationPress) In a significant move to enhance the capital's power infrastructure, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has authorized the construction of a substation in Narela along with an extensive network of transmission lines. This initiative aims to facilitate the transfer of electricity from Rajasthan, according to an official statement released on Monday.
The interstate transmission system (ISTS) project is being executed by Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL), a government entity, to deliver electricity from Rajasthan to the national capital.
By effectively addressing a long-standing challenge regarding electricity transmission while ensuring fair compensation for farmers whose land will be affected, the Chief Minister has found a balanced resolution to overcome the project's obstacles, as stated in the announcement.
Chief Minister Gupta highlighted that this decision represents a crucial advancement towards enhancing Delhi’s electricity framework and fulfilling her administration's objective of guaranteeing a continuous power supply.
She emphasized that the government's decision not only ensures justice for farmers in accordance with their rightful entitlements but also paves the way for the project's advancement. This development will assist Delhi in meeting its increasing energy demands in a reliable manner.
Furthermore, the Chief Minister remarked that the resolution of this long-standing deadlock exemplifies her government's commitment to the capital’s progress and showcases a robust political will along with a compassionate approach to farmers' and the public's concerns.
The project will traverse nearly 20 villages in North and North-West Delhi, including Auchandi, Harewali, Mungeshpur, and Qutubgarh, thus ensuring a sufficient supply of electricity to the city while catering to its growing needs.
The Central Government also expresses strong support for this initiative, as it spans multiple states.
To facilitate the project, it was decided that compensation would be provided to the farmers whose land the transmission lines will cross. However, numerous discussions failed to reach an agreement on land valuation and compensation rates, risking delays. Importantly, even after receiving compensation, farmers will retain ownership rights over their land.
To break this stalemate, Chief Minister Gupta called a recent high-level meeting attended by senior officials from PGCIL and the Delhi Government's Revenue and Power Departments.
The Chief Minister affirmed that her government is entirely dedicated to protecting the interests of farmers.
