Delhi Congress Accuses AAP and BJP of Deceiving Slum Residents for Electoral Gains

New Delhi, Dec 15 (NationPress) Devender Yadav, President of the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee, claimed on Sunday that the AAP administration and the BJP, who have overlooked the needs of slum dwellers for more than 10 years, are now luring them with false promises aimed at garnering votes.
He mentioned that the inhabitants of the Jhuggi Jhopri (JJ) Clusters had decided during the party's month-long Delhi Nyay Yatra to vote exclusively for Congress in the forthcoming Delhi Assembly elections, rejecting both parties.
According to the Delhi Congress chief, they have come to understand that Congress consistently safeguards their interests and well-being.
He criticized former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who had assured the poor of “free” power and water, for instead overcharging them with inflated utility fees while offering them empty reassurances.
Yadav stated that it was under the Congress government that a policy was executed to settle slum inhabitants by allocating them plots, followed by the development and enforcement of an in-situ flat construction policy to enhance their living conditions.
As the Delhi Assembly elections approach, he alleged that both Kejriwal and the BJP are once again making false promises to slum residents.
Yadav pointed out that Kejriwal, who guaranteed free water for JJ Cluster inhabitants, not only failed to keep his promise but also left them vulnerable to the tanker mafia, which exploits the underprivileged and forces them to purchase bottled water.
The tanker mafia continues to operate in Delhi, as they took over duties from the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) to take advantage of slum residents.
He added that slum dwellers are receiving exorbitant water bills, with one instance showing a bill exceeding Rs 8,000 for a single-room slum.
Yadav remarked that Kejriwal remained silent when the JJ clusters adjacent to the Yamuna were inundated during the monsoon, as the AAP government failed to desilt the drains over the years.
The displaced slum residents received neither compensation nor assistance in reconstructing their homes, he stated.
