Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, March 27 (NationPress) The Delhi Minister of Health and Transport, Pankaj Kumar Singh, expressed his discontent on Friday regarding the absence of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Opposition MLAs during critical Assembly sessions, notably when the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) reports were presented.
During a press briefing following the conclusion of the Delhi Assembly's Budget Session, the Minister stated that such behavior demonstrates a lack of accountability and jeopardizes the democratic framework.
He pointed out that the Opposition seemed to avoid participating in discussions surrounding contentious topics, including the 'Sheeshmahal', which is the renovated official residence of former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
"The Opposition intentionally chose to be absent during vital proceedings, including the CAG and PAC report presentations, understanding that subjects like the 'Sheeshmahal' would be brought up," he stated.
“This raises significant questions about their accountability,” he added.
Pankaj Kumar Singh stressed that transparency and accountability are fundamental to the government's operations, ensuring that facts discussed in the Assembly will remain accessible to the public.
Reiterating the government's commitment to development, the Minister outlined the substantial budget allocation aimed at enhancing Delhi's health and transport sectors.
The Delhi Budget for 2026-27 designates Rs 13,034 crore for healthcare and Rs 12,613 crore for transportation, showcasing a robust dedication to ensuring accessible healthcare and a modern, efficient transportation system, he mentioned.
He also noted that the health sector will benefit from significant funding aimed at improving public health infrastructure, finishing long-delayed hospital projects, expanding medical education, and developing integrated healthcare facilities.
Simultaneously, the transport sector will see accelerated initiatives towards environmentally friendly mobility, which includes the increase of electric buses, ongoing metro enhancements, and the impending launch of EV Policy 2.0.
Pankaj Kumar Singh acknowledged Chief Minister Rekha Gupta's leadership, asserting that the budget represents a clear vision for inclusive growth, enhanced service delivery, and improved quality of life for residents of Delhi.
