A central figure in this case, Dinesh Verma, also known as Billu, sustained injuries during a police encounter early in the morning near the Dwarka Expressway in Bijwasan. This confrontation took place around 1:45 a.m. on July 18, as law enforcement, acting on a tip-off, set a trap to catch Verma.
When confronted, the accused opened fire, with one bullet striking a police officer's bulletproof vest. The police returned fire, injuring Verma in the leg.
He was promptly taken to Indira Gandhi Hospital for medical attention, and a separate case has been filed against him at the Police Station in Kapashera. Verma, a 40-year-old from Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, is a well-known criminal sought in multiple states for crimes including robbery, murder, and attempted murder.
He is also implicated in an attempted murder case in Bihar. During questioning, he admitted to orchestrating the farmhouse robbery and providing weapons to his accomplices. The audacious dacoity occurred on June 24, when armed robbers made off with Rs 30 lakh from a businessman’s estate in Ghitorni, South Delhi.
A case was registered under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (FIR No. 271/25) at the Vasant Kunj South police station.
Among those detained is Adesh Kumar, the businessman’s former driver, who allegedly utilized insider knowledge to facilitate the crime.
Others apprehended include drivers and aides from Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh.
The police seized an automatic pistol, a stolen Apache motorcycle, Rs 7 lakh in cash, as well as a Scorpio and Hyundai Aura vehicle used in the robbery, along with mobile devices and both fired and live cartridges.
