Key Takeaways
New Delhi, April 19 (NationPress) In a rapid and perilous operation, the Delhi Police successfully captured two suspects linked to an attempted murder case in the Chhawla region, following an early morning shootout in Dwarka. Officials confirmed that the case, characterized by a premeditated assassination attempt, was resolved within 24 hours after it was officially reported.
The incident occurred on April 17 in Shyam Vihar Phase 2, under the jurisdiction of Police Station Chhawla, where two armed individuals approached on a motorcycle. One of the suspects aimed to shoot the complainant at point-blank range; however, the firearm malfunctioned. Consequently, a case was filed under pertinent legal sections on April 18, which initiated a comprehensive manhunt.
Utilizing “accurate human intelligence,” a team from the AATS Dwarka intercepted the suspects, identified as Rocky (22) and Sumit alias Koki (24), near the Urban Extension Road (UER) at approximately 5:35 a.m. on Sunday. The police reported that the duo was riding a Yamaha motorcycle when they were halted.
“When ordered to surrender, Rocky fired at the police team, releasing three rounds with the intent to threaten lives,” stated the press release, noting that one of the bullets struck a head constable’s bulletproof vest.
The police team showed restraint and responded in controlled self-defense. “The police retaliated with three shots, hitting Rocky below his left knee and detaining him after a brief struggle,” the statement elaborated. The second suspect, Sumit, was subdued and found in possession of a loaded homemade firearm.
Authorities confirmed that Rocky was the one who attempted to shoot during the initial incident, while Sumit was the motorcycle operator. A 7.65 mm pistol with two live cartridges and three spent shells were recovered from Rocky, while another firearm with a live cartridge was taken from Sumit. The motorcycle utilized in the crime was also confiscated.
The injured suspect was transported to a medical facility, and a new case has been filed under additional provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Arms Act.
Praising the operation's success, the police emphasized their “Zero Tolerance Against Crime,” stating that “perpetrators of grave offenses and armed offenders are met with bravery, restraint, and prompt justice.”
