Amaravati, April 16 (NationPress) In a tragic incident, at least eight devotees lost their lives, while 12 others sustained injuries when their vehicle collided with a ready-mix truck in the Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh on Thursday morning.
The collision took place around 3:30 a.m. near Chilakaladona in Mantralayam. The victims, who were from Chikmagaluru in Karnataka, were en route to Sri Raghavendra Swamy Mutt to seek blessings.
The vehicle impacted the heavy truck traveling in the opposite direction. Emergency services were dispatched promptly to the scene for rescue operations.
Five individuals died at the scene, while three others passed away later at a hospital. The injured have been taken to a hospital in Yemmiganur.
The deceased have been identified as Kumar (60), Deepika Veena (35), Sunil (40), Belli (3), Meenakshi (60), Puttamma (60), Tayamma (60), and Lolakshi.
Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu expressed profound sorrow over the fatalities resulting from the accident. He conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families and sought updates on the situation from the officials.
Officials informed him that the accident occurred while the devotees were traveling to Mantralayam for darshan, resulting in eight fatalities.
Ten injured individuals are currently being treated at the Area Hospital, while those in critical condition have been transferred to the Kurnool Government General Hospital for advanced care.
The Chief Minister has instructed officials to ensure that the injured receive the highest standard of medical attention. He also expressed his heartfelt sympathies to the families affected by this calamity.
Transport Minister Mandipalli Ramprasad Reddy also voiced his shock regarding the devastating road accident, extending condolences to the families of the victims.
He described it as distressing that such a tragedy occurred while the victims were en route to embark on a spiritual journey. The minister has urged travelers to strictly follow road safety guidelines and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety.
