Somnath, March 29 (NationPress) Fishermen from the coastal regions of Gujarat are filled with pride following Prime Minister Narendra Modi's commendation of their community during the 132nd episode of Mann Ki Baat. They believe this acknowledgment has significantly boosted their spirits and reinforced their vital role in fostering a self-reliant India.

In his address, the Prime Minister referred to fishermen as “warriors of the sea” and emphasized their importance as the foundation of a self-sufficient India, recognizing their contributions to the economy and food security. He also discussed governmental initiatives in technology, insurance, and infrastructure, and shared inspiring stories such as that of Odisha’s Sujata Bhuyan, who dramatically improved her life through fish farming.

For the fishermen of Somnath and the neighboring Dwarka, the Prime Minister's acknowledgment struck a deep emotional chord, with many expressing that it is a great honor to be recognized on a national scale.

Mukesh Bhai Fulwadiya, a fisherman from Dwarka, stated that the community feels empowered by both the government’s assistance and the Prime Minister’s words. “We are indeed warriors, and since 2014, we have evolved into even stronger defenders of our livelihoods. The government has granted us subsidies and resources that have enabled us to be self-reliant, and we will persist as warriors,” he shared with IANS.

He added that improved access to equipment and financial support has enhanced their livelihoods, allowing them to work more efficiently and securely at sea.

Another fisherman, Kishore Bhai, remarked that receiving recognition from the Prime Minister holds profound significance for the community. “The Prime Minister remembered us—this truly matters to us. We are self-reliant, and his concern for people like us fills us with pride,” he noted.

Fishermen in the area highlighted that over the years, various initiatives related to subsidies, insurance, and infrastructure development have made their work more sustainable and reduced risks. Many noted that these efforts have facilitated the expansion of their activities and ensured stable incomes for their families.

The community also emphasized that recognition on a national platform like Mann Ki Baat not only validates their contributions but also underscores the significance of the fisheries sector in India’s growth narrative.

With ongoing support and motivation, fishermen in Somnath are optimistic about continuing to be essential contributors to the country's economic advancement while reinforcing the vision of self-reliance.
