Gandhinagar, February 23 (NationPress) The Women Art and Craft Festival was officially launched on Monday at the premises of the Gujarat Legislative Assembly as part of the initiative ‘Har Ghar Swadeshi, Ghar Ghar Swadeshi.’
Assembly Speaker Shankar Chaudhary inaugurated the festival, joined by Deputy Speaker Purnesh Modi and Minister for Women and Child Welfare Dr. Manisha Vakil, alongside Assembly Secretary Chetan Pandya, senior officials from the Women and Child Development Department, and local residents.
While addressing attendees, Chaudhary emphasized that women from Gujarat have gained worldwide acclaim for their artistry, specifically in embroidery and traditional handicrafts.
“Through their commitment and expertise, the women of Gujarat have elevated our handicrafts to international prominence. Today, these traditional arts are recognized globally,” he stated.
He regarded the exhibition's organization within the Assembly as a commendable initiative that will support and highlight women artisans throughout the state.
He congratulated the Minister for Women and Child Welfare on this initiative and recommended that Members of the Legislative Assembly advocate for such crafts in their constituencies to broaden their exposure.
Encouraging the public to explore the exhibition, Chaudhary remarked that the stalls represent the dedication and dignity of women artisans. “These stalls are not just for selling products. Each item signifies the hard work of our sisters and the vision of a self-sufficient India. Even a small contribution from citizens will empower them further,” he noted.
On this occasion, Dr. Vakil mentioned, "This festival showcases indigenous handicrafts and handmade goods from women self-help groups statewide, available for purchase. This endeavor will foster self-reliance among women and generate new job opportunities. It marks a significant step towards women's economic empowerment, reinforcing the ‘Vocal for Local’ message.”
The exhibition, hosted by the Gujarat Women Economic Development Corporation Ltd., will take place from February 23 to 28 within the Assembly complex.
There are ten stalls featuring handicrafts and native products crafted by women artisans.
