Gurugram, February 10 (NationPress) The traffic authorities in Gurugram have levied fines totaling Rs 1.2 crores against 20,415 offenders for driving on the wrong side between January 1 and January 31, as reported by police.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Traffic, Virender Vij, the Gurugram Police undertook special initiatives and regularly monitored vehicles at various locations to combat wrong-side driving.

During these checks, drivers caught violating traffic rules were penalized accordingly.

Officials from the Traffic Police expressed serious concerns regarding the blatant disregard for traffic regulations, noting that wrong-side driving poses significant risks to both pedestrians and other motorists.

"The primary aim of the Gurugram Police is to facilitate a smooth and secure travel experience by ensuring organized traffic management. Strict actions are taken against those who contravene traffic laws to maintain order on the roads," stated Vij.

The Gurugram Police also conducts periodic awareness campaigns to educate the public and encourage adherence to traffic regulations.

Vij pointed out that wrong-side driving is a leading cause of accidents, particularly dangerous during peak hours or nighttime.

Additionally, traffic officials have pinpointed key areas that are prone to accidents.

"The traffic police have devised a strategy to lower fatalities, which includes plans for traffic signal installations at Rajiv Chowk. Our personnel are also deployed on National and State Highways, where the majority of accidents occur. The ultimate goal is to minimize road fatalities and enforce compliance with traffic laws," the DCP emphasized.
