Gurugram Traffic Police Accumulate Rs 10.28 Crore in Fines Over 11 Months

Gurugram, Dec 2 (NationPress) The Traffic Police in Gurugram have levied fines totaling Rs 10.28 crore against 1.46 lakh traffic offenders from January 2024 to November 2024 for engaging in wrong-side driving, as reported by police.

Officials from the traffic department expressed deep concern over the blatant disregard for traffic regulations, noting that wrong-side driving poses a significant risk to the lives of pedestrians and other drivers.

“In an effort to combat traffic-related violence and accidents throughout Gurugram, we are conducting special enforcement operations and implementing various strategies for smoother traffic flow. We have established numerous checkpoints to apprehend violators,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Traffic, Virender Vij, in a statement to IANS.

Recently, the city's traffic police have concentrated their efforts on violations that lead to fatal incidents.

He highlighted that wrong-side driving is a primary contributor to accidents, with violations during peak hours or at night being particularly hazardous for commuters.

In addition to safety awareness campaigns, the Gurugram Traffic Police are educating the public on the dangers of driving in the wrong direction, operating under the influence of alcohol, and the importance of wearing seat belts and helmets.

“Reducing road accidents is achievable through maintaining lane discipline and adhering to prescribed speed limits. The Gurugram Traffic Police urge the public to drive within designated lanes and at safe speeds while obeying traffic regulations,” he added.

“We have pinpointed critical traffic intersections that are prone to accidents. Furthermore, the traffic police are implementing a strategy to decrease fatalities, which includes plans for installing traffic signals at Rajiv Chowk. Our personnel are also present at key locations such as the Delhi-Gurugram Expressway, Sohna elevated highway, and Kundli-Manesar-Palwal Expressway, where the majority of accidents occur. Our primary objective is to minimize road fatalities and ensure compliance with traffic laws,” the DCP concluded.
