Gurugram, April 16 (NationPress) In a significant crackdown on wrong-side driving, the Gurugram Traffic Police have issued 61,602 challans totaling Rs 5.19 crores against traffic offenders from March 1 to March 31, as reported by police on Wednesday.

The traffic authorities confirmed that decisive measures were implemented against those driving against traffic rules.

“To uphold traffic regulations, the Gurugram Traffic Police took stringent action, penalizing 61,602 drivers who breached lane discipline, particularly on National Highway-48, National Highway service lanes, Gurugram-Faridabad Road, and Gurugram-Sohna Road,” stated Virender Vij, DCP (Traffic).

Additionally, an official disclosed that the Gurugram Traffic Police imposed fines on 80 motorcycle riders, amounting to Rs 80 lakh for using modified silencers, primarily on Royal Enfield Bullet bikes and loud horns, during the same month.

The act of creating a loud noise with a motorcycle, known as ‘Silencer Blast,’ is classified as an offence under Sections 120 of the Central Motor Vehicle Rules and 190(2) of the Motor Vehicles Act. This is typically executed by turning the engine off and then abruptly restarting it while the motorcycle is at high speed.

“This action produces a sound resembling that of a firecracker. It is commonly seen with high-powered motorcycles like the Bullet. The main goal of the Gurugram Police is to enhance road safety. Most road accidents arise from lane violations, wrong-side driving, and abrupt lane changes, posing serious risks to life,” he explained.

He emphasized that to mitigate these issues, strict penalties are imposed on offenders.

The Gurugram Traffic Police urges all district residents to adhere to lane discipline and comply with traffic regulations.

The police indicated that such enforcement campaigns by the Gurugram Traffic Police will persist in the future as well.
