Gurugram, February 18 (NationPress) The traffic authorities in Gurugram have issued a total of 147 challans amounting to Rs 14.70 lakh for violations involving modified silencers predominantly from Royal Enfield Bullet motorcycles and loud pressure horns during the period from January 1 to January 31, as reported by officials on Tuesday.

Among the 147 challans, 56 were for modified silencers and 91 for pressure horns.

In the previous year, the traffic police had recorded 753 challans totaling Rs 75.30 lakh. The act of creating noise through the silencer, referred to as a 'silencer blast', is classified as an offence under Sections 120 of the Central Motor Vehicle Rules and 190(2) of the Motor Vehicles Act. This typically occurs by turning the engine off and then abruptly back on while the motorcycle is moving at high speed, producing a sound akin to a firecracker, especially common with high-capacity motorcycles like the Bullet, according to police.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Virender Vij mentioned that a dedicated campaign was initiated by the Gurugram Police last month to address traffic violations related to silencer blasts and pressure horns.

He stated that 14,000 individuals were educated as part of their traffic awareness initiative.

"Our objective is to reduce road accidents and ensure the safety of Gurugram's roads. Some two-wheeler riders disturb others by using noisy silencers," Vij emphasized.

He urged the public to refrain from using pressure horns on motorcycles and encouraged reporting any traffic rule violations to the police. There is an intensified effort to penalize vehicle owners with customized parts that contribute to noise pollution, and traffic personnel have been instructed to take necessary action against offenders.

"We advise that no more than two individuals ride on a two-wheeler, helmets must be worn, mobile phones should not be used while driving, riding against the traffic flow is prohibited, intoxicants should not be consumed while driving, and traffic regulations must always be followed," Vij added.
